Sanae Takaichi appointed Japan’s first female prime minister | ABC NEWS
Japan’s parliament has elected Sanae Takaichi as its first ever female prime minister.
It was the 64-year-old conservative leader’s third attempt at the position.
Critics have questioned whether Ms Takaichi’s historic rise can be considered a win for women on account of her right-wing alignment.
North Asia Correspondent James Oaten says the new leader’s biggest struggle will be the task of reviving Japan’s economy.
