  1. Taiwan was taken by Japan from China in 1895 after the First Sino-Japanese War—a history that remains deeply embedded in China’s political memory. As a result, any statement by a Japanese politician regarding Taiwan’s status is often perceived in Beijing as reopening an old wound, reviving memories of historical trauma, Japanese imperialism, and unresolved questions of sovereignty.

After Japan’s surrender in World War II, Taiwan was returned to Chinese administration in 1945 under the Republic of China (ROC). Soon after, the long-running civil war between the Nationalist government (Kuomintang/KMT) and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) resumed. The CCP gradually gained control over most of mainland China, and in 1949 it declared the establishment of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in Beijing.

The ROC government retreated to Taiwan, bringing with it key political institutions, military forces, and many civilians who fled the mainland. From that point onward, the PRC governed mainland China, while the ROC continued to govern Taiwan and several nearby islands. For decades, both governments claimed to be the sole legitimate authority over all of China—a legacy that continues to shape cross-strait relations today.

While the PRC continues to claim Taiwan as part of its territory under the “One China Principle,” Taiwan’s political landscape has evolved. Some political parties—including the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)—emphasize that the ROC (Taiwan) already functions as a sovereign state and reject unification. Across society, the mainstream public preference is to maintain the status quo: Taiwan operates as a self-governing democracy without making a provocative declaration of formal independence.

  6. The Chinese Communist Party, unable to seize power on its own, allied with the Japanese military to fight the Kuomintang.
However, the modern Chinese Communist Party has falsified history to make it appear as if it fought the Japanese.
The Japanese military's massacres and atrocities against Chinese were not directed against the Communist Party, but against the Kuomintang government and its people.
The Chinese Communist Party was able to seize power by allied with the Japanese military.
After taking power, Mao Zedong sent numerous letters of gratitude to the Japanese Prime Minister.
This was because he could not forget the help Japan had provided.
The modern Chinese Communist Party does not teach this fact in schools, and therefore no Chinese know it.
    The Chinese are ignorant slaves.
    China's history is a lie.

  7. PM Wong said all southeast asia already forgot and forgave empiral Japan and moved on. If China leave japan alone let it be a "normal" country and let it do it military expansion? PM may soon refresh his new history lesson

  8. The stimulus is a twenty dollar voucher per adult. I would be so grateful to Sanae Takaichi and administration. What a great leader!

  9. China is doomed. They are acting like a dam little kid. They need to grow up and be an adult. China has no idea how strong Japan is.

  10. 中国はかつて、欧米列強に租界と言う植民地で領土を切り取られ、英国には香港を植民地として差し出した。しかし中国はそれについて白人には何も言わない。結局中国は白人に頭が上がらず、怖くて怯えているだけだ。

  11. Prime Minister Takaichi's remarks on Taiwan shows her own deep anti-China stance and her overzealousness to put Japan back onto the world stage as a minion to Trump and his anti-China stance.

There's therefore no points for China to ask her to retract her words. Just move on and do what China wants to do peacefully.

On the China-Taiwan unification issue, I understand that both countries' constitutions have both the mainland and the island of Taiwan as a single country. So, that puts the unification issue squarely an internal issue that no other country should interfere with, period. regardless of one's opinion.

  12. Only the stupid leaders will let the US parasite suck their blood. US is the parasite of the world which create trouble to keep their blood supply going. Debt of 38 trillion should bankrupt long ago.

  13. India is overtaking Japan in GDP and even the UK and France have very very close GDPs to Japan's. (UK $3.96 trillion, Japan $4.28 trillion and the UK population is only half of Japan's). Japan may slump down even further in the ranking tally in just a few years. This island has no future.
