South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has stressed the need for three-way cooperation with Japan and China, during talks with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in her home prefecture of Nara. Also on East Asia Tonight, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney heads to Beijing in bid to reset ties. Meanwhile China vows to defend its rights and interests after the US announced new tariffs on countries “doing business” with Tehran.

Japan's comments don't determine China's unification, so they're not important.
However, the unification plan should be one that satisfies the people of East Asia.
China can achieve unification even without war, so it doesn't need to be overly sensitive to external reactions.
