It’s time to take on a new challenge! This time we are heading to Japan for winter & snow and to go skiing for the very first time! We found flights from the UK (Manchester Airport) to Japan for just three hundred pounds per person. Somehow, it was actually cheaper to fly all the way to Tokyo than it was to stop halfway. There’s no direct route, a long overnight journey, and a connection through China, and we’re flying with an airline we’ve never tried before, Hainan Airlines. On paper, this journey takes almost a full day, and we have no idea what the comfort, the food, or the experience is going to be like. So the question is simple: Is saving this much money actually worth it, or is this where budget travel finally goes too far?

  1. I cant believe you didn't ask about how much an upgrade would have been when they asked you while you were sitting on the plane. You may have even been given it for free considering how empty the plane was.

  2. Chinese airlines have their issues but overall I would say it is average in terms of service, not that bad. When they are doing discount, it is usually quite a good deal. Especially when western ones are getting a lot more expensive.
Hainan is the good one amontst these airlines.

  3. I pour a glass of wine have my snacks and totally enjoy your vlogs after a long day working in Nursing xoxo Ad's is super gorgeous and calming 🙂

  4. Hainan air is China's best airlines and is ranked top 10 airline 14 yrs in a row according to the internet. Surprise about the 1.9 trust pilot score

  5. We did a similar route back in April as a cheap way to get to Tokyo for Star Wars Celebration but via Shanghai. We were terrified after reading bad reviews online and on Reddit etc. but actually on the day, it wasn’t that bad. The flight was fine, the people were fine, Shanghai airport was dull but it got us where we wanted to be for about 1/3 the price of other direct flights. I mean, if I had the money I’d choose direct every time, but if you can’t afford that and want to go on holiday to the far east, do it.

  6. Thank you for the video. Hainan flies to my local airport but I’ve been hesitant to try after horrible experiences on other mainland Chinese airlines.

  7. I’ll be flying business again with Hainan shortly from Manchester, it’s half the price of a Qatar or Emirates flight when I booked it (which was well in advance), the food service in business is fantastic, the flight is a shorter time and the staff have been delightful.

  8. NGL, i thought it would be a lot worse. But I'd take that flight for 300 pounds. You were smart to buy lots of snacks and drinks just in case the food was shyte. I thought they'd bully you for everything like RyanAir does. But you took fullsize suitcase and could stay for a week before returning home.

  9. That food on your flight is far better than what you get on some U.S carriers, you got a pretty good deal for your money., Hainan is a very good airline / safe and is trusted by many who fly with them!🛫

  10. Hainan is a full service n even rated fairly good. Just this 2 ignorant people who doesn’t even google to check the airline first.

  11. Thanks for this clip. Hainan is a Chinese island in between Hong Kong and Vietnam, also known as the Chinese Hawaii. It's also a surfers place. Hainanese chicken rice came from there. The airline is not a budget one – although you got a great deal. They fly on to Melbourne Australia too so that is a good way for us to access UK/Europe, although the leg from here would be fully booked I would imagine. Chinese airlines used to be known for staff with limited English on board. Is that still the case 2P1D?
