The army was for the war, the navy wasn't. Yamamato was afraid he'd be killed for opposing it. Every Japanese leader knew attacking Indonesia would bring the US into the war. The leaders also knew they couldn't win a war, but they hoped to make the war so bad that the US would approach the peace table allowing Japan to keep most of its conquered lands.
Yeah, no, the US needed a reason to get into it with JIA and navy, it was an orchestrated manipulation by OSS to get them to hit us so that congress approves war. US needed the war to get out of depression
A realy dumbass decision. I dont know if its worse than Hitlers opening the eastern front with Russia. Offcourse they couldnt know Usa d drop two A bombs on their sorry asses. Those are decisions made by rulers that lead wars for a mass military from comfortable sofas. In our near future i hope China doesnt attack Taiwan from the same reasons. Its like those megalomaniacs have blurred mind without common sense. Mr. Trump should avoid getting involved into exausting ground war with Iran so it wouldnt end up like Vietnam war scenario. Just the death from above!
This is ignoring the fact that the Americans had cut the Japanese off from aliminum, oil and steel. And I believe had issued an ultimatum that if they didn't stop their aggression in the Chinese mainland and the Pacific, there would be further sanctions.
I wonder why Japan didnt conquer those lands… THEN take the Phillipines and American territory. When it would have been much, much harder for the USA to attack them
Funny how the French and the British are jokes today and the United States is the giant you don't want to awaken and fill with a terrible resolve in him
What is he talking about there is no dutch east indies as long as the US Navy was in the region. We had the Philippines, wake island, Guam saipan, midway and pearl
Usa denies oil to Japan and let Japan attack countries/colonies with oil? its reasonable to think if Japan attack another "ally" territory Usa attack Japan and now with intact navy. in theory with less 2 air carrier groups/task force Japan could get total supremacy in sea about 2 years.
The problem is USA was willing to enter the war nevertheless, and even while there was no clear provokation, it was still the biggest threat Japs could foresee. And they were not wrong, as History confirms.
The plan also was convenient by the time. Had it not been for the lucky strike of Midway, a California under threat might had had a different meaning for the whole conflict.
Risky, but the only viable way around it. And yet, i agree it might had been better to focus on only asian soil (and waters).

There is no evidence to support the claims that Tojo was against the attack on Pearl Harbor

It is really a point of investigation that whether he did it by himself or he was told to so that 3rd party could actually enter

Japan learned technology and turn into an evil empire during WW2 and today a puppet state under the USA

Solid info history

Japan's biggest mistake was not allying with the Soviet Union. At least have very friendly relationship with them, not stepping on each others toes.
Very good explanation !

Yamamoto: if we don't beat them within 6 months, we're f***ed (don't attack them plz)

Вообще то Рузвельт объявил нефтяную блокаду. Так что отсидеться было не возможно
