It shouldn't be a mystery. As Lou Mannheim from "Wall St" aka ie the Charlie Sheen one said, "Stick to the fundamentals." The fact is that 40 years of trickle-down economics failed. The US was built on combining public investment and private innovation to achieve shared growth. Heaven forbid this involves the mortal sin of taxation and regulations. But when the middle class reigned over the economy and earned most of the nation's income instead of the inverse of that which is the case today, those ideas weren't the taboo political third rail like they are now.
