How Many Countries To Make 1 Pair of Jeans?

Have you ever wondered about the journey your jeans take before they end up in your closet?

First, the cotton used to make jeans is often grown in multiple countries, such as the United States, India, and Brazil. This raw cotton is then shipped to factories in another country, where it’s spun into thread and dyed to get that classic blue color using natural or synthetic indigo. The dyed threads are then woven into denim fabric, which could happen in a separate factory in Turkey or Italy.

Next, the denim is sent to a country like Cambodia or Bangladesh, where it’s cut and sewn into jeans. But it doesn’t stop there! The zippers might come from Japan, and the rivets (the little metal bits) could be from China. Each part of the process involves specialists from different parts of the world.

This video is based on a chapter in “Clothing Poverty” by Andrew Brooks, Professor of Geography at the King’s College London.

  1. CHILE MENTIONED 🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅 (there's no condor emoji)

  2. I am turkish and when I buy trousers or any clothing I wear them for at least for 3 years and it's because I grow up(17 y.o)so they dont fit anymore if I wouldn't grow up for 4 years I would still be wearing the same cargo pants I bought years ago for work 😂

  3. I seriously doubt that %7 percent statistic. If he said the top %10 of wealthiest people wear a garment 7 times, I'd buy it. I have some garments that last 7+ years 😂

  4. 7?!?!?!? My f ing suit is the only thing I have yet to wear 7 times. And if a normal shirt either breaks or shrinks it either becomes a working shirt or a donation to small sisters in need of comfywear. Who the f is it only wearing your clothes once then throwing because if the average is 7 I make up for like 40 people only wearing once

  5. once i buy something i wear it till is unwearable or i find something better. But i never throw my clothes away, they go to charity shops or just live in my wardrobe.

  6. Everything ive worn is worn to shreds. Dont know who they asked about clothing wear, but my shit sees hundreds of uses lmao

  7. Honestly, the average dude i know has been wearing the same clothes for at least 5 years. Its not even due to the lack of cash, i just dont see the need to buy more, id rather invest.

  8. Just to put another step into this sometimes in my country, we store them and then ship them to a different country so they can ship it back to my country to the customer. And now I cannot tell you why we do this. I don’t even know myself.

  9. 7 times for new Levi’s – because they start to rip apart after that many uses. Crap jeans now! I loved my old quality Levi’s – but since the last 4 pairs have fallen apart in less than 6 months, I’ll never buy another pair! Garbage!

  10. How the fuck…. man. I wear my shit constantly, especially if its something i like. I have jeans of wich i bought at a yard sale in 2017 been wearing them almsot every day. yes cleaning them since. And its 2024. That's some rich pepole shit there if it's only worn 7 times and tossed. Also. How is this correct when there's also daily people donating clothing something aint addin' up?

  11. I hope that 7 times thing is a joke or a really, really incorrect statistic. I'm pretty sure I have a few pair of socks I still wear that are 5 years old. And I toss socks as soon as they get a hole in them.
