Americans pay more for EVs than almost every other country in the world. This video delves into the lack of affordable electric vehicles (EVs) in the U.S., contrasts it with more economical options in countries like Mexico and Costa Rica, and explores historical protectionist measures that have shaped today’s market.

Learn about global players like BYD and the challenges of competing in a market dominated by tariffs and trade policies, highlighting the broader consequences of such economic strategies.

  1. At $16k for a new car in Costa Rica, that’s 1.7 times the countries average annual salary for a car where as a $40k tesla in the us is only about 0.7 times the US annual salary so I’d rather have that

  2. As always Chinese bot accounts flooding comments with their useless propaganda… How can you compete with communist state funded products? Countless EV brands got bailed from bankrupcy by Chinese state multiple times. Do you expect US to bend over and spread their cheeks so state backed Chinese brands could devour US local prroduction without breaking a sweat? On top of that do you expect US to give tax credits to fund this foreign economic attack? Free trade is only done with a fair market and communist China is not a fair market free trade country. Also everyone seems to forget US established global trade with their navy and every other country benefited from it stop with the China suckling bs US hate.

  3. I don't understand what the problem is…if China is subsidizing their auto industry ti undercut US car makers its perfectly responsible to add tarriffs to restore the balance

  4. Honestly, I'm not interested in EVs at all. I watched the video just because the guy is super cute. I only wish it were somehow relevant to EVs if he took off his shirt.

  5. Chinese labour is much more expensive than a lot of countries nowadays. Saying China has cheap labour is like saying America has culture.

  6. it only means that the rest of the world advances, while America stays 1-2 decades behind in EV technology.
    America just pays a lot more for less technology.
    Which is fine, as 96% of the world is not America.

  7. America is the worlds largest oil producer. I oil companies play a huge part in keeping EVs out.
    they want to keep their profits, subsidies, and political influence.

  8. The BYD price outside China is not that competitive, I am from Mauritius, they are milking the market . . . The price is in Mauritian Rupees

    -> Dolphin Standard -> Rs 1,350,000 -> USD 29,504.41

    -> Dolphin Extend -> Rs 1,550,000 -> USD 33,875.44

    -> ATT0 3 Stanard -> Rs 2,095,000 -> USD 45,786.48

    -> ATTO3 Extend -> Rs 2,400,000 -> USD 52,452.29

    -> SEAL RWD -> Rs 2,950,000 -> USD 64,472.60

    -> SEAL AWD -> Rs 3,300,000 -> USD 72,121.90

    I don't see these prices from a new entrant in car manufacturing reasonable, they have a lot of experience in cells and battery packs though!

  9. US has great advantages over China. Firstly scientists in US can change their gender at any time! This is something no Chinese scientistscan do!
    Individual engineers in US are addressed as they/them, indicating that one person can be more than one gender.
    New generation engineers and scientists in US graduating from ivy leagues colleges need not have any knowledge of Maths, as math is declared as racist by the deans of these Ivy universities!
    Future scientists from US are well versed in Equity which is vastly superior to Chinese meritocracy!

  11. The video should have read "The Real Reason the U.S. Government doesn't want Chinese EVs". People I meet who are aware of the $11,500 Chinese EV often say that they would buy one for local driving.

  12. USA just cannot compete with the superiority of Chinese market.
    They are completely outmatched and outclassed, and are now trying their hardest to keep them out. As a result the US consumer is suffering.

  13. ask the government to open their market publicly like they shout out loud to other countries to make unfair deal.. let the public choose why they want, is n't that the meaning of freedom? i bet US wont brave enough to allow chinese EV in

  14. The real reason should be that the Chinese EV's are garbage. Poorly designed, they fall apart, always catch fire and I could go on. Plus all Chinese EV's are heavily subsidized ($10,000 or more) by the CCP. You won't be able to find parts for them as the Chinese EV companies are going out of business. If you bothered to monitor the Chinese market you would know this. Chinese vehicles are heavily subsidized in order to be so cheap. BYD means Burn Your Dreams since they catch fire so much.
