Candles turn Akita road into winter wonderlandーNHK WORLD-JAPAN NEWS #shorts
Winter brings huge amounts of snow to the northern Japanese prefecture of Akita. Residents of a district in Yokote City embrace the season with a two-day illumination event.
During the day, holes are dug in the high banks left by snow-removal work along a 10-kilometer route. Some 2,500 candles are placed inside and lit at dusk. Their warm glow turns the pathway into a winter wonderland that delights both locals and visitors alike.
In places along the way, people craft sculptures of animals or build snow huts.
