Rescue work continues for trucker trapped in sinkholeーNHK WORLD-JAPAN NEWS #shorts
Rescue operations are ongoing after a truck plunged into a large sinkhole at a busy intersection in Yashio City, Saitama Prefecture. The road collapsed early Tuesday, creating a hole approximately 10 meters wide and 5 meters deep. Witnesses say the ground gave way just before the truck fell in.
More than 15 hours later, at around 1 a.m. Wednesday, rescue crews managed to extract the truck’s cargo section using a crane, but the driver’s cab remains trapped. The driver, the only occupant, was in contact with rescuers until Tuesday afternoon but has since become unresponsive.
Authorities are closely monitoring the site as the sinkhole has expanded. Concerned about potential gas leaks, police have advised residents within a 200-meter radius to evacuate to city hall.
