Japan’s nominal GDP hasn’t grown at all for nearly 3 decades. As its debt problems rises, and demographic shift looms, will it make the country poorer?

I’m Japanese. I am not sure country is becoming poor, but the government raise tax for social welfares and pensions. The amount of money we receive from workplace is relatively declining. Private corporations are doing well, but the government is still shit.
Japan was a country that imitated China and Korea in ancient times, and in modern times, it quickly copied the United States and Europe and colonized Asia, and was lucky enough to achieve economic growth. In the 21st century, when such strategies no longer work, it is simply returning to its original place.
I don't think so, solely because almost its manufacturing companies are scattered around the world, even its financing companies. Fact is Japan had "invaded" us without knowing.
Japan lost its pride & honor after Matthew Calbraith Perry's naval show of force. Japan lost its identity & prime after WWII to the US. Eventually after the war, they became top world economy and fell down after the 80's since the US wouldn't allow Japan to dominate the market.
Even though Japan is becoming "poorer", it has already developed a lot of infrastructure that can serve them well for the next century. Same can't be said about countries that are still poor hand have yet to develop their infrastructure.
The reason why Japan is bound to fail is the same as the case of Britain and Germany. Both of these countries accumulated wealth through colonies and wars and developed through industry, but unlike the US and China, they failed in the 4th industrial revolution. They are countries that are intoxicated with their past glory and have no future.
it doesn't matter a 4 trillion economy and a 33,000 dollar gdp per capita of japan is still one of the best economies in the world, the drop is insignificant as you see….
GDP PPP is for comparison between countries, real GDP is for comparisons over time, and real GDP PPP is for comparison between countries over time. The 30-year average for this last category sits at $38k, and in 2022 it was $34k. So much for the increasing purchasing power.
from Japanese. The number of births (Japanese) in Japan in 2024 will be 685,000, down 5.8% from the previous year. ↓ Record number of elementary and junior high school students truant from school: more than 340,000, an increase for 11 consecutive years.
Do you understand? Japan is a country in a state of constant decline. The decrease in the number of Japanese people has led to an increase in crimes committed by the foreign workers they accept, and public safety has also deteriorated. Some local companies have stopped accepting Vietnamese because of the high crime rate.
We used to be told by you foreigners, “Don't be like us, Japan,” and we are on the exact same path. lol It is longer too late,😢⤴⤴
Poor with good social infrastructure. Trains and buses are plentiful and run on time. Housing is affordable. People have healthcare. The streets are clean. There are not many homeless. I would prefer this over trinkets.
According to “The 25 Best Countries in the World 2024” by U.S News Report, Japan was ranked 2nd (#1: Switzerland, #3: U.S.A, #4: Canada, #5: Australia)
You mentioned early in your documentary that there is less young population than before.. so spending less on education is natural, no? Is it not relative?
The declining birthrate is hindering economic growth. This is not only happening in Japan, but also in the rest of Asia. Europe and the U.S. have avoided this problem by accepting immigrants.
Japan finally achieved its 2.3% CPI target but it was not what she wanted. She expected it to come from domestic consumption but instead it is due to depreciating yen. Now most Japanese companies are losing money.
Japan is not poor. Japan nominal gdp per capita 33K$ but their ppp gdp per capita is 55K $. In 1995 Japan nominal gdp per capita was 45K$ but ppp gdp per capita was only 24K $. PPP is a better measure for gdp per capita and R and D. Nominal is better for defence and public budget. All countries have some bad decades. That does mean they are doomed. Japan will be 8.9 Trillion $ Nominal GDP in 2038 according to IMF prediction. Japan still ranks Top 5 in PISA and TIMSS. US, Germany nowwhere close to Japan. HALE in Japan is 74.2. But US is 63.9 and Germany is 70.4.
Japan is definitely not a poor country, but it will become if important things are not changed. First consider that 35% of japan jobs are ARBAITO means low paid job. 900 yens/hr gross is common in Japan for these ARBAITO. 900yens =5.8USD gross per hours. No one in USA will work for that. Then the educational system is still operating for the needs of 1960. Millions of Japanese fail because they don't get a second chance in case of failure at school, this can occurred for various reasons, even illness. If you are out of one cycle, you will be out until you turn 16, then you will become laborer (mostly TENIN) shop employee with a average salary of 1100 yens gross per hour in Tokyo, less in other prefecture. This system was set in the 60s when Japan was still an agricultural country and a manufactural country. But in 2024, the country lack of innovation, almost no one speak english anymore. I worked here 17 years ago, a lot of people spoke english back then and they were really friendly. That has changed. Many challenges if Japan does not want to end up like France, that is now a trash country.

Red light districts in bigger cities have more women than before. This usually indicates economy is not well

As the per capita income goes up this happens to the country with low natural resources!

いつも思うが、日本は停滞していると言うが、他の国はどうしているのか。実際に日本を追い抜いたのは中国だけ。しかし中国はかなり特殊な国で、実態はあまり良くないと言われている。
Would be poor if involve in war again or Japan ignored Padi field

buy why? And how come?
Japan is packed with lots of companies, mostly car manufacturers,
So what's the reason?

20 years ago 🇯🇵🗾 only received 8 million foreign tourists because it was an expensive place to visit. In 2019 it received 31 million.
Japan is finished, China already took all the markets which they had.
I wish my country was as “poor” as Japan 😂
