South Korea, EU, Japan, others prepare response to Trump’s 25% auto tariffs | DW News

US President Donald Trump has announced a 25 percent tariff on all car and light truck imports into the country, saying the move would ‘spur growth’ in the American economy. The White House said the tariffs would raise 100 billion dollars a year. However, applying them could be tricky as US carmakers are sourcing many components internationally, especially from Canada and Mexico. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said she “deeply regretted” the move. World leaders have been reacting to President Trump’s decision to introduce tariffs on imported cars. Many have expressed deep disappointment and acknowledged that the move will hurt their economies.

  2. Just apply a 15% tariff on everything no mor and not less, and remove all the bulls**t and turn everything in to a real equal world trade, not the BS in Europe, Japan and India

  3. I find it funny and hypocritical why is it okay for foreign countries to place tariffs on American products but when we Americans wanna place tariffs on foreign products everyone wants start crying and bitching ???.

  4. remember that trump's goal is out to make money for his billionaire friends.
do what you have to, but don't give any deeper discounts than you already are. you will lose money regardless of what you do.

they'll come crawling back when they realize that they can't afford the worst vehicle on the lot, never mind a sensible one.

  5. The U.S.A is less than 5 percent of the global population. The international outrage that is displayed when the U.S.A does anything remotely in its own self interest is so insanely disproportionate that it just shows how badly we were getting shafted on behalf of international interests.

  6. Would be a genius move if these random tariff declarations were actually to catch and expose politicians that front run these decisions and profit from trading.

But it’s probably just random nonsense…

  7. All the world needs to do is cut off a critical part to the American auto industry and American production lines stop. American cars are made up of critical parts coming from some of the countries that trump is attacking. These countries hold back one computer chip, one airbag component, a spring, a sensor, a brake assembly and an American car can’t drive off the assembly line. What a fool. Is the trumpanzee capable of counting his own fingers…seriously.

  8. For sale. 2014 Ford Fusion. 88000 KM’s. Little rust. Asking $45000. Don’t try and lowball me. I know what i have. Thanks Cheeto!!!!

  9. Tariffs to encourage companies manufacturing on the US and countries to buy from the US. They can do this because they have the customers, the money. And for those who say "don't buy US products" you're already doing that, that's why this is happening and you can't retaliate, unless you go digital, but all services are from US, there's not much alternative, Google, Apple… heck, you're using Youtube XD

  10. Most of the products found here are made in China and to now have the audacity to act such way is just shooting your lower and middle income citizens who are barely surviving. Why not focus on lowering rents? Shmm

  11. He continues to not understand how tariffs (tax) work. Citizens of the US do not hane the money to pay the tariffs (tax). And in the mean time domestic manufacturers will raise their prices just because they can. Citizens lose either way. They will not create as many jobs as promised. They will use robots.

  12. While Trump is lifting sanctions on Trump he is creating chaos and division on all America's closest allies. Wow .. . Russia is always the winner in this administration.
