What to Know as US, Japan Start Tariff Negotiations

The US and Japan have begun tariff talks with an aim to reach a deal as soon as possible. While there is no immediate halt on the tariffs, Japan’s top negotiator, Ryosei Akazawa, says preparations are underway for a second round of negotiations later this month. US President Donald Trump says both parties have made “big progress” as he personally meets with the Japanese delegation in Washington. But Akazawa says they did not discuss currency issues. Bloomberg’s The China Show reports on the latest.

  1. "Great honor to have just met with japanese delegation on trade"

    I thought he said other country kiss his 455 few days ago 😂

    Big progress, well, ukr mineral deal pretty close but in the end no deal, rus peace deal, good vibe, pretty close again, then no deal also.

    This 🍊 dude need to correct his book, art of no deal 😂

  2. Japan is so honored! As the first country to kiss Trump's behind, could you share it with the world? What does it smell like? Is it pleasant?

  3. In fact, Japan's geographical location, as well as its political position, is between the United States and China. Xi Jinping is currently visiting Vietnam, Cambodia, and Malaysia in an attempt to create a Chinese economic zone. Japan and China held the same amount of U.S. Treasury bonds, but China has recently begun selling them. Trump is forcing Japan to choose between the United States or China. Japan is Asian, uses chopsticks, lives in a Chinese character culture, and has been close to China since ancient times.

  4. Japan is peanuts, insignificant, obsolete cars , nobody uses its electronics , public debt is ridiculous, standard of living is high , it’s been in deflation for decades and zero interest environment can’t even raise rates 0.3%. What is the big deal ? A limping dog trying to partner with a limping cat. Big deal.

  5. If Trump wants to trade american military equipment for lifting of tariffs. Remember what he said about downtuning military equipment by 10 percent even to allies!!! Japan needs to show strength or Trump will just bulldoze them…

  6. Just listened to Akazawa's press conference. Key take: they are unclear how they are supposed to proceed with the negotiations. The impression is that Trump wants a fast outcome. Japan has an easy win here. If Trump wants a quick result, then the demands cannot be much; Japan tosses that bone. If the demands are harsh then all Japan has to do is delay and let Trump burn the house down. Japan has an upper house election in the summer so they cannot afford to look bad here.

  7. Look at all the commie in the comment section hating on Japan.
    Japanese will be way better than any commie ever be… you all can hate on them. All the Xi’s dog coming out to spew hate on Japan.

  8. 💪👍Trump❗️Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba’s surrender tariff agreement has made great progress-kissing Trump Ass👍❗️

  11. The US screwed Japan in 1985 with the Plaza Accord. Japan's stock market subsequently plunged, and it took 34 long years for it to climb back to its previous high, only in February 2024. I hope the Japanese are smarter in the negotiations this time around.

  12. It's going as well as Zelinsky's visit to the White House for the "minerals deal". With how rude the Trump administration is in public, they are way worse behind closed doors.

  13. The United States and the Japanese have been great friends for a long time. And the Japanese get along with other countries. Unlike China that has a bullying attitude and China is helping Russia against Ukraine

  14. Shouldn't the Japanese leader feel embarrassed after Trump's remark about 'These countries are calling us up, kissing my ass'?

  15. The United States has intentionally destroyed Japan's economy, which was once the best in the world. Over many years, Japan should distance itself from the U.S. Even though Japan pretends to be friendly with the U.S. because it lost the war, there is no one in Japan who truly respects America.

  16. Japan opposition lawmaker Shinji Oguma of the Constitutional Democratic Party voiced sharp criticism of Trump tariffs, warning against capitulation to what he referred to as 'American extortion.' No Western media will dare to accurately translate in full and broadcast Oguma's speech.

  17. The only thing Japan needs to consider when dealing with Trump is Canada and Mexico's experience. Under Trump two different trade agreements have been undermined. The art of the deal is to extract more and more and never accept an agreement is enforceable. Only a fool would think that once there is a shark attack its safe to enter the water.

  18. 3 truths:

    1- In a global trade war, there are no winners;
    2-The US administration is the most flagrant collection of misfits, duds and retreads since the Bad News Bears;
    3-Anyone who believes anything that any US official states publicly is not smart enough to deserve an opinion.
