Telangana-Japan Collaboration: EcoTown Project & Circular Economy Initiatives in Hyderabad
In a landmark step toward sustainability, the Government of Telangana has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with leading Japanese Eco Town companies to drive Circular Economy initiatives and establish an EcoTown in Hyderabad. This collaboration focuses on recycling, municipal solid waste management, and environmental restoration.
As part of this initiative, discussions are underway to explore a sister city partnership between Hyderabad and Kitakyushu, Japan. During the delegation’s visit, Kitakyushu Mayor Kazuhisa Takeuchi requested direct flights between the cities—an idea welcomed by Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who assured to take it up with the Centre.
Additional areas of cooperation include setting up a Japanese language school in Hyderabad and promoting skilled workforce exchange. The Japanese delegation was hosted on a study tour of Kitakyushu’s Eco Town, river restoration museum, riverfront development, and industrial recycling facilities.
