A “submerged forest” in a lake north of Tokyo is drawing photographers, sightseers and nature lovers alike. Lake Okushima, a dam reservoir in Gunma Prefecture with a 4-kilometer shoreline, transforms each spring as snowmelt swells its waters. Trees along the shore and in the shallows become partially submerged, creating the striking illusion that they’re growing straight out of the lake.
