Churanoumi [美ノ海] – GRAND SUMO Profiles
Chironi from Okinawa joined Sumo’s top division in November 2023. Standing just 1.78 m tall, he’s not so large for a sumo wrestler, but his low stance and dogged persistence make him a difficult opponent. At the March 2025 tournament, he began in fine form, losing only once in the first eight days of wrestling. [Applause] He ended up with a personal best 11 wins, also securing the fighting spirit prize to become the first wrestler from Okinawa to win one of the three special prizes. His next goal is to become the first Okinawan wrestler to reach the rank of Kasumi or higher.
