for decades Pakistan has been a refuge for those fleeing conflict and instability in neighboring Afghanistan but that started changing two years ago when Pakistani authorities began the mass deportation of of undocumented Afghans citing crossber terrorism concerns and now they’re expanding their targets nhk World’s Nazar O Islam reports large numbers of people are being forcibly returned to Afghanistan the Taliban say nearly 300 families gather at the Tohar crossing between Afghanistan and Pakistan per day displaced refugees are living in a makeshift camp nearby these include Kulaman not his real name and his family following the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan Zaman fled to Pakistan 45 years ago he and his seven children had lived there until April we had Afghan citizen cards i’ll show you though they had the Pakistan issued card Zaman says Pakistani authorities suddenly showed up at his house they said “Your cards have expired you should leave.” I’m really concerned about not having a home or land i don’t know what kind of work I can do to survive in addition his daughter’s path to education is being blocked taliban have banned girls from school beyond sixth grade i was studying English and u in Pakistan there are no schools for women here though the Pakistani government says more than 100,000 Afghans have been expelled from the country in April these include Afghan citizens card holders who have been told to voluntarily return to Afghanistan the Pakistani government’s policy is zero tolerance for those without passports or visas zero tolerance some people who had previously obtained visas are now unable to renew them such is the case with musician Hashm he entered Pakistan with his family after obtaining visas 3 years ago but they have since expired i have applied multiple times for a visa renewal but the government is not granting us one [Music] um used to work as a professional musician in Afghanistan but since the Taliban regained power fair interpretation of Islamic law forbids music he was forced to destroy his instruments i have remained in the field of music for 30 years i’ve spent all of my life pursuing music now that’s all being closed off a poor decision in Pakistan has granted him stay still um remains afraid of being deported we consider Pakistan our second home i don’t understand why the Pakistani government is sending us back to Afghanistan please help the Afghan people for these Afghans they face an uncertain future whether they return to their home country or remain in Pakistan nazra Islam NHK World Islamabad that
