it’s been one month since India and Pakistan announced the ceasefire following four days of military clashes The violence was triggered by a terrorist attack in April in the disputed um Kashmir region where government opened fire on Indian tourists killing 26 The incident escalated into worst fighting between the two countries in decades And as both sides continue to trade accusations there are concerns that the conflict could resume Near the border between India and Pakistan where the two countries recently clashed Collapsed houses bear the scars of the conflict Talib Hussein lives in a village in India administered Kashmir On the night of May 7th his home came under a bombardment by the Pakistani military The building was destroyed in the attack His family escaped with their lives but are now having to stay in temporary accommodation Tensions are still running high We’re scared that something may happen again and the fear is making it hard to eat properly If there’s another outbreak of fighting it will be poor people like us who suffer I pray for peace India’s government has maintained a hardline stance since the terrorist attack Prime Minister Narendra Modi warns that the military operation has only been temporarily suspended and says his country will immediately resume hostilities in response to further terrorism from Pakistan People in Pakistan live a peaceful life and eat your bread or else there is a bullet waiting for you [Music] Muhammad Ashbaklas Sha who runs a farm in northwestern Pakistan is also worried about what comes next He depends on water from the nearby Indis River and its tributaries The river flows from the Indian side into Pakistan In 1960 the two countries signed a treaty that governs how the water is shared between them But now New Delhi has suspended the treaty and announced that it won’t hesitate to cut off its neighbors border supply That could have devastating consequences for Pakistan The Indas and its tributaries supply 80% of the country’s agricultural water I was shocked that India would suspend the treaty I keep wondering what will happen to us This is an act of economic murder The Indis River is our lives We can’t live without it Pakistani Prime Minister Shabbash Sharif sees any attempts to restrict water as an act of war and he has issued a strong warning to India India tried to weaponize Indust Water Treaty which is a lifeline for the people of Pakistan We are making proper arrangements to ensure that India never ever does it
