This $7,000 Single-Seat Electric Car Is a Big Hit in Japan

this tiny $7,000 electric vehicle with only one seat could be a hit in Japan japanese startup KG Motors Miot isn’t even a meter and a half tall while EVs are still a rare site in Japan demand for super compact cars has been growing that’s where the MiBot’s appeal comes in the company says it can go as fast as 60 km or just under 40 mph and needs 5 hours to charge it’s also about half the price of Japan’s most popular EV Nissan Sakura with an aging shrinking population and Japan’s narrow streets KG Motors sees demand growing for such small-sized cars the company is already on track to sell more of its EVs in Japan than the world’s biggest car maker Toyota it’s pre-sold more than half of the 3,300 Miots it plans to deliver over the next 2 years meanwhile Toyota has sold just over 2,000 EVs domestically in 2024

Japanese startup KG Motors is trying to kick start the nation’s electric vehicle market with the smallest, cheapest car it can possibly make. It’s already on track to sell more EVs in Japan than the world’s biggest carmaker, Toyota.
