Trump’s 25% tariffs on Japan “deplorable” – Japanese PM

The Japanese prime minister instructed the government to work together on the tariff issue with the highest priority toward the newly set August 1st deadline. The remarks came following US President Donald Trump’s tariff announcement. Trump said in a letter that a 25% tariff will be imposed on products imported from Japan to the US and warned that he will further raise the tariff if Japan retaliates. According to the White House, the tariff on automobiles will remain at 25%. While the additional tariffs will not be applied to the steel sector and others. Thank you very much. A Japanese government source said that the letter showed no enthusiasm for serious discussions toward an agreement. Another pointed out that Japan’s proposed condition is to have lower tariffs on the automobile sector, but Trump has no intention of lowering them at all. [Music] Sources related to the Japan US tariff negotiation said that the worst case scenario of tariffs being raised during the Japan’s upper house election has been averted. 1. Since yhe US has no real manufacturing bases, the tariff will only result in american consumers buying from the countries that get the lowest tariff and paying more at the end.

  2. Ahí está el país que los japoneses admiran tanto. Primero 2 bombas atómicas y ahora les destrozan la economía. Bien, sigan teniendo como modelo a Estados Unidos.

  3. You can tell that man doesn’t play video games… or he would never impose those tariffs. RIP gamers. All joking aside the ridiculous raising of tariffs unprovoked has got to stop. It’s killing not just the US economy but others countries as well that have nothing to do with this!

  4. So what exactly doe Trump want the Japanese to do? Buy oversized American SUVs with steering wheels on the left side? Buy Polaroid cameras and Kodak film? Buy RCA TVs and stereos?

  5. "Deplorable" is probably not a very accurate translation in this case. The exact word he used is 遺憾, which can also mean "regrettable" or "unfortunate."

  6. As a Japanese, I would like to give a word to America. DON'T offend Japan. It would be troublesome. Don't forget beneath the faces of courtesy and discipline, there is the blood of Samurai.

  7. Well if you don’t like these tariffs just wait. As Japan seems to be moving towards anti globalization I would like to see how that plays out for Japan in the future.

Not saying US cars have any place in Japan but there is more then just cars.
