The newly promoted Yokoonuna Ono Sto suffered a loss on day four, but has bounced back with two dominant wins. With the top dog back on track, the race is heating up. All right, we’re ready to get things started on Grand Sumo Highlights. Let’s find out how things unfolded on day seven of the July tournament in Naguya. We start with Mitake Umi six and oh he is the only unbeaten at the moment. He meets rookie Fujinoa at 4 and2. Surprise surprise. Who would have thought Mitake Umi would be the only undefeated RKishi after six days. Fujinoa is riding a huge wave of momentum coming in with four straight wins. jumps to the side. Goes after him, but Fujawa thrusts Mitake Umi down. Mitake Umi as a result loses for the first time in Naguya. With the loss of Mitake Umi, there’s nobody undefeated in Makunochi anymore. Fujino Kawa, five straight wins. He goes to five and two. Fujino Kawa came in with a solid game plan. Stepping to the right, Mitakei gains the left and inside position, but Fujino Kawa uses speed, superb agility and outmaneuvers. Mitake Umi Mitake Umi goes down for the first time. All right, we have one of the highlight matches. We have Kusano 5 and one meeting Cotto Aho 3 and three battle of two Shinuaku top division rookies. Kusano is on a roll with three straight wins. Kotto trains hard with his older brother Cotto Shoo and Oziki Koto Zakura the stablemates. Good touch by Cotto Ajo but double inside grip created by Kusano and he overwhelms Cotto Ajo. What a recovery. Quick recovery that is by Kusano and after that Cotto Ajo just could not match Kusano’s intensity. Kusano wins and he advances to six wins and one loss. So the battle of top division rookies goes to Kusano Kotojo pushes Kusano back. Pakano holds his ground gets the left hand in first. Right hand in the Moto Zashi. Dropping his hips is Kusano. And Kasano with a picture perfect finish. And out goes Cotto A-hole. Left hand Nihin upends Cotto A-Hole. It is Shishi meeting Shai. Both men at three and three. Shishi is determined to elevate his performance and prove he belongs in the top division. Shai’s performance is a complete tossup. One day he looks like an ozigi, the next he looks disengaged and out of six. Which side of Shodai are we going to get? Shai takes the charge. Shai goes inside. Shai, hugs and chunks and he defeats the Ukrainian. Shishi in a very strong fashion. Shishi opened up with an unusual against Shai, but Shai had the answer. Again, Shishi goes in with a pushing and thrusting attack. Shai is able to stop Shishi’s charge, goes inside Shai. That’s his go-to weapon. The Moto Zashi Shodai drops his hips, hugs, and chugs and he defeats Shishi. Nice sumo by the former Oziki today as Shai goes to four and three with this splendid sumo. We have Midori Fuji and Kaio meeting for the very first time. Look at Kaio’s record 0 and6. Ouch. Midori Puji has yet to unleash his signature move, Katasukashi, here in Nagagoya. Fans are eager to see him executed soon. Can Kaio find daylight? Oh, Kyo goes airborne, but Midori Fuji catches Kao in midair and Kao is taken out by Midori Fuji. Midori Fuji with a nice anticipation. He’s able to catch Kaio in midair and Kao is unable to recover. Kao’s unpredictable touchey backfires. Jumping to the side already. Midoruji deep inside on Kaio and Kao loses for the seventh straight day. It’s Cotto Sho versus Toki Hayate. Cotto Shoho is holding his own even though he’s not in top form. Four and two at the moment. Toki Hayate even at three wins and three losses. He’s getting better at fending off and enduring his opponent’s frontal charges. Toki Hayate gets taken to the edge. Nice move by Cotto Sho. One technique after another and Cotto Sho out maneuvers Toki Hayate. Kotto racks up his win number five. Yorikiri victory by Kotto gets the good flow in his match. left hand Noa and out goes Toki Hayate. First up, Morozuki double arm extension gets the swinging Toki Hayate to the edge and finishing him off with a nice left hand stiff arm. Noda. It is Chirani versus Roga. Every time Chilanomi wins, his fans back home in Okinawa are thrilled and energized. Loga finds himself stuck in a losing labyrinth, having dropped four straight bouts. Oh, good initial charge by Loa. Did he gain the left shallow grip he likes? He does, but it’s broken up by Chiranomi. Chanomi showing good defense. Chiranomi being stingy, not giving Loa what he wants with the left. goes to work from the right side and he drops Chiranomi with a nifty right hand. What Dashiag pulling over armed throwa scores his third win of the tournament. [Applause] Atami Fuji meeting Asakoru. Asakoru is a feisty grappler who fears no one. So Asakor faces Atami Fuji who is about 60 kilograms heavier than him but he’s not scared. Atami Fuji is performing much better this tournament. Good inial charge by Asakori right hand inside. He wants to gain a left hand inside as well. But Atami Fuji showing good defense by Asakori but is having a hard time moving. Atami Fuji Atami Fuji keeping up with speed. In the end, Atami Fuji burries Asakoru with a strong Kotag. Atami Fuji comes out on top. Asakoru put up a good fight, but in the end, Atami Fuji overpowers Asakoru [Applause] fully utilizing his about 60 kilogram weight advantage. Good speed, good intensity by Asakoru. Right hand in first, left hand inside right about here to create a moto Zashi. But Asakoru had a very difficult time budging. Atami Fuji Atami Fuji keeping up with Asakoru’s technique now squares up and he executes the Kotag. It’s Takosho meeting Kio. Another Rkishi winless after six days. Can he score his first win? Here is Takosho. Hard charging offense is tough to stop. Jo may be banged up, but he is offering no excuses, hoping to score his first win. Good initial charge by Chio back. He shows his back to Takosho and Takosho takes him out from the rear Okuridashi. Another loss for Chio. So he’s now on the ropes. One more loss. It’ll be a Makoshi losing record 0 and7 for Chio Shoma. In the meantime, Takosho goes to 4 and3. Very aggressive style of sumo by Takosho. [Applause] It’s Toby Zaru meeting Sadano Umi. Sadomi, the 38-year-old veteran may have a tough losing record right now, but do not count him out. Toby Zaru moves very quickly to find openings. That’s why he calls himself the flying monkey. Oh, face lap by Toby Zaru to slow things down on Sadomi. Sadomi goes inside. Sadomi goes after Toby Zaru and Toby Zaru pulls and that’s a big mistake. Sadomi wins for the first time in three days. Both men two and five after seven days here in Nagua. The veteran prevails. Sadomi wins. [Applause] Uda versus Gonoyama. Both men with good records. So, will Uda display another dynamic and wild technique to rack up more wins? Fans expecting to see some dynamic sumo from Udura. Gonoyama, a north and south competitor. He has a hard pushing and thrusting attack. There goes Gonoyama going after Uda. Udura holding his ground. Uda remains in the ring but Gyama finishes him off. What a sumo by Goyama. Goyama completely shuts down Uda’s offense. So Uda loses for the second time. In the meantime, Goyama goes to five and two. What a sumo by Gonoyama six. Picture perfect sumo by Gonoyama. Pounding, slapping, pummeling, going after Uda. Udrada does a good job remaining. He goes, he wanted to go inside but he could not. Goyama making sure Udra cannot use his lateral mobility. Goroyama keeps Uda right in front of him to shut him down. It’s Taker Fuji against Ichyamoto. Taker Fuji was favoring his right biceps at the end of yesterday’s match. Let’s hope it is not a serious injury. As you can see, it’s heavily bandaged. So, let’s let’s see. It’s not a serious injury that could affect his performance. Takujiamoto hard pusher thruster. He slaps. Tak Fuji down Hataki Ki right away. So looks like Taku Fuji banged up. Taku Fuji unable to use his upper body as well as he wants to with that right biceps injury and Ichyamoto takes advantage of banged up Taker Fuji. Taker Fuji his upper body is extended too far forward. Itchyamoto stops Takur Fuji’s initial charge and he simply goes for the slap down. It’s going to be a long tournament for Takur Fuji in the second week. All right, we have Hi, Umi and Mei about to fight. Hiomi charges out with all guns blazing, making full use of his explosive speed. Yesterday me was in a marathon match over two and a half minutes against Haku oho but came up short. Strong finish start and finish by Hiomi. I hope you did not blink because it was over in a hurry. Hiomi scores an easy win toshi and that’s four straight wins for Hi Uni. He now has a winning record four and three. Hit shift and down goes me. Strong thrust down by Hiroi. So Hiroi wins for the fourth straight time. [Music] We have oho and Ono Katu locking horns. Onukasu is getting denied against his toughest opponents this partial. He’s ranked at Mashida three, his highest rank. Oho is eager to return to the syaku ranks. So he will need to start producing better results. Strong touch eye by Ono Kasu left in. If he can get the right hand outside grip, Ono Kasu will be in total control. Oho in the meantime hoping to gain a outside grip with his right. Oho facing this way. Oho goes after Onoku. Onu rallies. Onu now gains that right hand shallow grip and that’s all she wrote. Onatu wins. What a technique by Onoatu. Onatsu knew exactly what he needed once he had that right hand shallow grip. Onatsu was in command and he defeats Oho in a very strong style. On Kata scores his second win. Right away Onoku gets a left hand inside first. Now Onoku is searching. On hoping to gain the right hand outside grip as well. Oho does a good job for a moment not giving Onoku what he wanted. But Onatu with his patience paying off because Oho goes after Onoku without any kind of major weapon that allows Onoatu to hold his ground, stay in the ring and rally to defeat Oho. Oho going for Maki. That’s a big mistake. [Music] It is Abby going up against Wakamoto Haru. After undergoing elbow surgery, Aby’s mobility may be limited this time, but he’s producing some wins. Three and three. Wakamoto hadu two and four. Very powerful Hidari Yotu Rkishi. Wakamoto wants to gain a build grip on Abby. Abi shows great flow in his sumo and he denies Wakamoto Haru from gaining any kind of grip on his belt. Abby wins. So Abby now has a winning record of four wins and three losses despite having a banged upper body. [Applause] Morozuki double arm extension slowing things down. for Wakamoto Haru. Wakamoto Haru. His balance is already disrupted. Abby once again goes for the hataki ki and it works this time. Let’s go to versus one first ever meeting. Sensational from Ukraine. Can he beat another opponent here on day seven? It’s goes in pushing, thrusting, slapping, giving a lot of business toki. Anishki holding his ground. Anishki taking a lot of punishment. Aishki being patient. Aishki goes after O when he pulls and Aishki once again defeats a Syaku opponent. What a performance by the sensational Ukrainian Ricoi Aishki. A Nishki advances to five and two. A Nishki has defeated one ozi to Seeki and now a Kusubi. What a performance from Aishki. A Nishki taking few licks. Nishki is not going anywhere though. Keeping himself low. Oshoma runs out of his offensive repertoire. So he pulls and that’s when Aishki was waiting and going for the kill. What a sumo by Aishki. He wins again. It’s Tamawashi versus Waka Takag. Two hard pusher thruster and Waka Takag fights with a lot of nifty techniques. 40-year-old Tamawashi at one loss and he’s looking like someone who is 10 years younger. Waka Taka Kag the return E2 Seeki Wake going up against the 40-year-old veteran Iron Man Tamashi and Tamawashi smokes Wakataka Kag. What a performance by the 40year-old veteran. He dispatches Waka Taka Kag with no problem. Tamawashi advances to six wings and one loss. Look at this pushing attack by Tamawashi. Tamawashi goes north and south. Waka Taka Kag has no answer. Good old Tuk. His feet are moving forward at all times and Waka Taka Kag cannot escape. It’s all Tamawashi. Tamawashi blows Waka Takag away. 6 and1 Tamawashi. The second highlight match of the day. It pits to Syaku RKishi Takayasu 5 and one going up against Seeki Kirishima. Also five wins and one loss. 10 and8 in favor of Kirishima. But the last time they fought it was Takayasu defeating Kirishima in May. So, let’s get it on. Takayasa is looking sharp and strong. He says he feels much stronger now than he did in March when he went 12 and three. Kishima is in good shape as he continues his push for repromotion to Ozi. Oh, strong challenge by Takah, but he gets dropped by Kirishima. Kirishima uses speed and the nifty technique moving to his left and hitting the haki ki right away and Takayasu unable to remain on his feet. Kirishima goes to six and one. Takayasu five and two. An explosive initial charge by Takayasu, but his upper body extension was way too much. And Kirishima just simply goes for the slap down and Takayasu bites the dust. Again, look at Takayasu’s upper body. It is extended too far forward right here and he cannot recover from that position. Here’s Oziki Zakura meeting for Haku Oho first ever meeting. Hakuo must be desperate to slay an Uziki right now to make a statement. With three straight wins, the Uziki seems much more focused after suffering his second loss. Oh, the ozi Koto Zakura going for the right hand. He normally likes to fight with the left hand, but today he goes for the MIT and he dispatches Haku Oho by overpowering him in the Hidaru sumo. Something we do not see from Cotto Zakura very often. Bakoto Zakura with a good game plan and execution. He defeats Haku Oho in a very convincing style. Very surprising to see Koto Zakura reaching with his right arm to gain that right-handed Watt. Hakuo must be surprised that Cotto Zakura coming in with an unpredictable game plan. And before Hakuo can recover, oh Zakura puts him away. Left hand in, right hand out. Hakuo looks really puzzled. So confused. Haku Oho just unable to do anything against Oziki Koto Zakura. Koto Zakura a perfect sumo today. [Applause] Here is the final match on day seven of the Nagagoya Basho. It’s a good one. Kim Bzan versus Onoato. Now get this. Kim Bzan defeated Ono Sato in January. The last time they met Onos 5 and one at the moment, looking for payback against this man who defeated Onos in January. Kim Bzan just one and five. Strong pushing attack by Kim Bzan. Oros resist. Oro goes inside deep and he simply puts Kimosan away without breaking a sweat. Onos gets the revenge and Onosato remains at one loss. Six and one. Yori Kitty victory for the Yokozuna. That’s three straight wins. Morozuki Kimzan. No follow through though because Ono Sato simply overwhelms him with his frontal charge. Kimzan couldn’t get any kind of separation because Ono Sato stays tight. On Sato’s lower body is so solid and strong and he wins. And that’ll do it for day seven of the July tournament. There were no major upsets here on day seven. And with Mitakumi set back, many RKishi are once again back in the title race. Currently, there’s a six-way tie for the top spot led by New Yokuna Ono.
