Il Giappone aumenta il salario minimo a un livello record | Impara il giapponese con le notizie d…
Yay! Minimum wage increased in Japan. Sorry to shock you everyone. So this is a good news for workers in Japan. Bad news for business owners. So right now we are facing recordbreaking increase in minimum wages. Tell me about your minimum wage in your country in the comment. As you know, Japan is one of the biggest nations in the world. But unfortunately, minimum wage is so low, especially if you live in Tokyo. Living with minimum wages, it’s so hard. So, let’s check how much minimum wage increased in Japan and learn some beginner level Japanese in this video. Let’s dive in. The Japanese government has decided to raise the minimum wage by an average of 63 yen. Bring it to,18 yen per hour. That’s the largest increase ever. This was decided by a government council called Chingai. Such a long name, so you don’t have to memorize it. So first, let’s try to see how much,8 yen in dollars. So foreign viewers understand how much it is at this moment,80 yen is $757. As you know, yen is weak now. So yeah, $7. You might be shocked. Well, in some states maybe $7 per hour is not so horrible, but in Tokyo, so let’s say New York. Do you think New Yorkers can live with $7 per an hour wages? I don’t think so. Because of inflation, everything is expensive. That’s also happening all over Japan, not just about in Tokyo. So, in my opinion, even this minimum wage increase, 180 yen, is not enough for living. This raise reflects ongoing price inflation, high wage demands in spring labor negotiations. A government goal to reach,500 yen nationwide. So currently the government is trying to reach the minimum wage,500 yen. I’m going to convert,500 yen to dollars again. $106. Finally $10. So, let’s try to check how much minimum wage in New York. Wow. In New York, the minimum wage varies by location and industry. For New York City, Long Island, and Westchester country, the minimum wage is $16.50 per hour. That’s wonderful. So, that’s why maybe you already heard about this news. more and more Japanese people especially young people try to go to America, Australia, Canada doing working holidays. Well, mostly Australia, but some go to America or Canada for earning money because like I said, at this moment the minimum wage in Japan like $7, but if you live if you go to New York $16 that’s two times minimum wage in Japan. Japanese vocabulary minimum wage raise increase prices cost of living wage increase. Let’s say the minimum wage has been raised. So this is a good news for workers. And what about for business owners? The increase is a bit different depending on the region. For example, Tokyo,63 yen to,226 yen. Akita 950 yen 201,5 yen. So for the first time, every prefecture will be over,000 yen. Every prefecture is now over,000 yen. Of course, if you live in Tokyo, it’s going to cost more money than living in rural areas. But not everyone is happy. Some small business owners say they can’t survive these higher wages. Japanese vocabulary chiki region kaka disparity ka management operation employer. Let’s look at some real comments from Japanese citizens. Even if wages rise, part-time avoid working too much because of tax rules like the Hakusan or Hakanju wars. So I have to explain what is Hakusan or Hakan war. The 1.03 million war refers to a threshold in Japan’s tax and social security systems. Your income exceeding 1.03 03 million yen can trigger additional taxes and social insurance premiums for certain individuals particularly part-time workers and spouses. Similarly, the 1.3 million yen war chakan evverts to a threshold related to social security benefits specifically for spouses where exceeding this amount can due to the loss of certain benefits. So let’s say you are university students but still live with parents the household is the same or your husband or wife is working as a part-timer usually those people have to be careful about how much they earn in a year especially part-timers otherwise they have to pay their own taxes and like I talk about this additional taxes you have to pay that’s why or is pretty important. But if minimum wages go up then you cannot work many days right now because if you work more you cannot have a sponsor tax deduction. I run a restaurant I now have to pay high wages even to students workers but if I raise prices customers go to chains. So for business owners, this is not a good news because you have to go up the minimum wages. Then if you run a small restaurant, you cannot raise prices otherwise your customers go to big chains. Small businesses are suffering. The government must support us too. These comments show a big tension between workers who want higher pay, businesses who can’t afford it, government policies that may look good but cause their struggles. Japanese vocabulary take-home pay social insurance fees labor shortage support. In Japan, money is often sensitive topic. There’s a strong culture of gam or enduring hardship quietly. Small business owners feel responsible for workers and customers. But there’s also a sense of tension or modesty. Many workers won’t demand too much. Raising the minimum wage is important, but without support for small businesses, it can backfire. If you work by yourself like a set of business owner and you don’t hire anybody then you might be okay but if you’re a small business owner and hiring some part-timers then it’s going to be a huge damage on their business. Even there are some commentators say I can no longer keep up with my business because of this minimum wage increase. So like I said for workers this is a good news but for business owners this is not a good news. Unfortunately Japan is a capitalistic country so you have to make money for your company for yourself and you have to earn money for living. Money is very important. Japanese vocabulary. G endurance, patience, tensson, modesty, kurushi, difficult, painful, hyo, consideration. People who watch my videos constantly, I keep talking about gam. So now you know the meaning of gam. That’s a very important concept in Japan. Then now tensson is a new term for you. This is pretty important as well. Modesty. We usually like people who are modulate like not showing off. So I know in western countries it’s better to be outstanding but in Japan we live as a group and this means modesty is important. Even how much you are great, you earn lots of money, you have a beautiful girlfriend, you are so smart. Usually we try to be modest. So if you want to get along with Japanese people, make friends, make girlfriends, then be modest. People who show off is not going to be liked by Japanese people. I think even in western countries, it’s same like even how much you have money like showing off your fancy Roorex, Gucci shirt, having a vidon bag, showing off people not want to be liked by people, right? or people don’t care. Well, about muscles. Yeah, like you want to show off your muscles. You keep training, work hard, even about diet, then yeah, you want to show off your bodies especially summer season. I understand going to beach. So, everyone be modest. What do you think? Is a minimum wage high or low in your country? Should the government raise wages even if small business suffer? How can countries balance worker needs and business health? Please leave your thoughts in the comments. Thanks for watching today’s episode of Learn Japanese through the news. In the video, I mistakenly read 社会保険料 (shakai hoken-ryō) as 社会保障料 (shakai hoshō-ryō).
Sorry for the confusion, and thank you for your understanding!
