Kenyan President William Ruto delivered a powerful keynote speech at TICAD9 in Yokohama, praising Japan as a key trade and investment partner in Africa. Citing over $5 billion in aid and 120 active Japanese companies in Kenya, Ruto positioned his country as the “gateway to the African market.”
The President also unveiled plans for deeper cooperation in universal healthcare, green energy, and support for SMEs through a new green investment fund. Talks with Japanese PM Shigeru Ishiba focused on geothermal energy, sustainable agriculture, and Africa’s digital future.
The conference, co-hosted by Japan, the UN, and the African Union, aims to strengthen Africa-Japan relations around private-sector growth, youth and women empowerment, and regional integration.
