More than 1,000 people tested their goldfish-catching skills at the annual national championship in Yamatokoriyama, Nara Prefecture, western Japan. The area has been hosting the contest since 1995 to boost its profile as a center for raising the fish. Competitors were given three minutes to catch as many as possible with fragile paper scoops. The winner landed 55 of the tiny golden treasures in the final.
