USA Issues a 100% Tariff on Japanese Electronics in 1987
In 1987, the United States imposed a staggering 100% tariff on Japanese electronics, a bold move aimed at curbing Japan’s booming tech industry and addressing a growing trade imbalance. The decision, enacted under President Ronald Reagan’s administration, targeted products like televisions, computers, and semiconductors—items that had become symbols of Japan’s economic dominance. American policymakers argued that Japan’s aggressive export strategies and alleged dumping of cheap goods were undermining U.S. manufacturers, prompting this drastic retaliation. The tariffs sent shockwaves through global markets, escalating tensions between the two economic powerhouses and raising fears of a broader trade war.

Yeah??? and who buys Rolls Royce? Not your average American watching eggs price soaring…
A weak America helps nobody; a strong America can help everybody.
Committing or saying ur going to do something and actually doing it are 2 different things. Talk to me again if they do.
TEAC, Technics, AKAI, Yamaha, PIONEER, and TASCAM are some of the great electronics coming out of Japan even today. I still got my TEAC tape deck (still works )with the dual VU meters 👍🏽
This transition as a consequence of Americans and politicians demand to go bankrupt will take decades.
PBD-do better. Rolls-Royce not really about cars. It has everything to do with high-end jet engines. The same jet engines that are on Trump Force One (2 RB211 turbofan engines).
American quality used to mean something. Now all it means is you’ll overpay for poor quality.
In 1972 Datsun and Toyota economy cars were starting to dominate American cars. Smaller, lighter and better mileage. The tariffs were either lifted or reduced which made the American car companies work better at building an equally desirable car. It's economic strategy, not war
What the leftie dummies don't understand is trump uses tariffs as a negociation tactic to compelle most companies to come produce their shit in the US. Bringing in money and jobs to the american people's wonder why lefties hate that 🤔🤔🤔
Only US slaves like EU, SK and Japan will come to produce in US. The rest of the world will avooid USA.
GO TRUMP GO 💙🤍❤️ America FIRST 🇺🇸🇺🇸
Pre NAFTA
Yeah but techy stuff aren’t goods they’re a luxury for us consumers now the computer chips and stuff like that it’s something the government gotta deal with
Rolls Royce drivers losing sleep over tariffs. Phew, that was a close one—crisis averted!
We used to manufacture TVs and other electronics in the United States. We also used to build refrigerators, washing machines and dryers.
Made in America meant something.
Now it’s almost non-existent
Rise of the GOLDSTAR and EMERSON electronic brands from South Korea during this time
Japan keeps their high paying jobs in Japan. They use our people as assembly line workers. If you have never worked in a Japanese manufacturing corporation here in the United States of America then talk is cheap. If you have a masters degree in computer science and work in technology they force you to wear a workers jumpsuit. Americans are relegated to look and act is if they are just another assembly line worker. I don't care if they pull everything from our markets. It is time for American excellence in manufacturing to return to that status of the 60's-80's. We need to bring it back full force. We are more than capable of creating our own cars, lawn mowers, televisions, computers…. They have become rich at the expense of our citizens.
That was 1980s, today nothing is being made in america & will not be made here because manufacturing is not a big money maker like techs/ services related to techs.
Stop planned obsolescence too
