Japan Alarmed as 470+ Quakes Jolt Remote Islands, Raising Megaquake Concerns

[Music] a remote chain of islands in southern Japan is trembling and not just from fear Since Saturday the Tokara Islands a sparssely populated group south of Kyushu have been shaken by over 470 earthquakes according to the Japan Meteorological Agency JMA The ground has barely stopped moving all week though no major damage has been reported so far By Thursday morning the JMA had recorded 474 quakes in the region Most were small barely noticeable unless you were sitting still but two stood out Magnitude 5.1 quakes on Sunday and Tuesday strong enough to rattle dishes and swing light fixtures Authorities have urged residents to stay alert This region has seen long periods of earthquake activity in the past Please be careful the JMA warned Volcanologist Hayoshi Yokos added that a stronger earthquake magnitude 6 or above is still possible This isn’t the first time the Tokara Islands have felt this kind of seismic storm Back in September 2023 the area experienced 346 earthquakes in just 15 days Only seven of the 12 islands are inhabited home to around 700 residents Adding to the anxiety some of these islands have active volcanoes and they’re hard to reach Fairies run only twice a week and only if weather permits [Music] Japan is no stranger to earthquakes It sits at the crossroads of four major tectonic plates making it one of the world’s most seismically active nations The country experiences about 1,500 tremors each year accounting for 18% of global quakes Most are mild but depending on how shallow or close to cities they hit they can still cause serious damage Adding to the jitters a government panel on Friday June 27th said there’s a 16 to 18% chance of a mega quake hitting central Japan in the next 30 years The earthquake research committee identified 23 fault zones beneath the Sea of Japan that could produce a magnitude 7.0 or greater quake The highest risk 4 to 6% is in nine faults off the Kinky region’s northern coast [Music] While experts are warning of future risks many online are spooked by an eerie prediction from Rio Tatsuki a manga artist and self-proclaimed clairvoyant In her book The Future I Saw she predicted a massive disaster striking Japan on July 5th 2025 She described cities sinking boiling oceans giant bubbles and a mega tsunami worse than the 2011 Tohoku earthquake While scientists dismiss this as fantasy the timing of current quakes has made many uneasy For now the Tokara Islands remain under watch The earth continues to rumble and with every tremor tension rises along with questions about whether something bigger is just around the corner

Japan’s remote Tokara Islands have experienced over 470 earthquakes since Saturday, including two magnitude 5.1 tremors on Sunday and Tuesday, as reported by the Japan Meteorological Agency. Though no major damage has been reported, authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant. The region, home to just 700 people, is known for seismic swarms and volcanic activity. Concerns have intensified following a government panel’s warning of a possible magnitude 7+ earthquake in central Japan within the next 30 years. Public unease has been further fueled by a viral clairvoyant prediction of a disaster on July 5, 2025.

  1. 小さな前震が数百回もある大震災はないのでは? 大きな震災の場合の前震は数回程度で いきなりドーンと来るイメージ。

  2. The July 5th date is made up. She said it will happen sometime in July, not exactly on July 5th. The publisher of the manga came back in 2021 with a made up date of July 5th to sell more copies. Becareful!
