President Trump touts ‘massive deal’ with Japan

And President Trump is touting what he calls a massive trade deal with Japan, America’s fifth largest trade partner. The agreement includes a 15% tariff on Japanese imports, while Tokyo invests $550 billion in the US. Trump claims that the US will get 90% of the profits. Though he did not explain how that would be calculated, he also announced new trade deals with the Philippines and Indonesia. Both favor US exports with no tariffs in return. All of this comes as a deadline looms for US and Canada to come up with a trade agreement. There is no deal in place yet.

The agreement includes a 15% tariff on Japanese imports and Tokyo will invest $550 billion in the U.S., according to the president.
