US Japan Trade Deal: Donald Trump Announces ‘Massive’ $550 Billion Trade Deal With Japan
Great job. But I just signed the largest trade deal in history. I think maybe the largest deal in history with Japan. US President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced a massive trade deal with Japan that he said will result in Tokyo investing $550 billion into the United States and paying a 15% reciprocal tariff. In a post on Truth Social, Trump added that Japan will open to trade, including cars, trucks, rice, and certain agricultural products. He said the deal would create hundreds of thousands of jobs and that $550 billion of investments would bring 90% profits to the US. Trump said, “We just completed a massive deal with Japan, perhaps the largest deal ever made. Japan will invest at my direction $550 billion into the United States, which will receive 90% of the profits. This deal will create hundreds of thousands of jobs. There has never been anything like it. In a letter sent to Japan earlier this month, Trump had threatened to impose 25% tariff on its exports to the US from August 1st, which was 1 percentage higher from the 24% tariff announced during April 2nd Liberation Day tariffs. In the Truth Social Post, the US president added, “Perhaps most importantly, Japan will open their country to trade, including cars and trucks, rice, and certain other agricultural products and other things. Japan will pay reciprocal tariffs to the United States of 15%. The announcement of trade deal by Trump comes after a meeting with Japan’s top tariff negotiator Rioi Akazawa at the White House on Tuesday. A report by Asahi newspaper stated. The report further added that Japan’s tariff negotiator Akazawa also held meetings with US commerce secretary Howard Lutnik and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant. Japan’s automobiles imported in the United States are already being charged a 25% tariff in line with other countries. As per customs data, automobile exports play a significant role in Japan’s economy and have a significant chunk in Japan US trade, making up 28.3% of all shipments in 2024. Trump while announcing the trade deal said this is a very exciting time for the US and especially for the fact that we will continue to always have a great relationship with the country of Japan. Well, thank you very much. This is just want to thank you and everybody believes that too, Mike. Thank you very much. Great job. But I just signed the largest trade deal in history. I think maybe the largest deal in history with Japan and that was done with Japan. They had their top people here and uh we worked on it long and hard and it’s a great deal for everybody. I always say it has to be great for everybody. It’s a great deal. A lot different from the deals in the past. I can tell you that. But uh we’re doing really well as a country. We’re strong. Look better now than you did before this horrible thing happened. So, uh, and I said to the Japanese, uh, trade representatives, and these were the top people, uh, we concluded the one deal, Doug, and now we’re going to conclude another one because they’re forming a joint venture with us at in Alaska, as you know, for the LNG. So, I said we’ll all do that together with Chris. Is Chris here? I don’t know. Chris, right? If you could set that up, Doug, it would be great. But, they’re all set to make that deal now. So, I think it’s good. This was really the one they had to make. and uh we’re going to make a deal with Japan on the LNG in Alaska. Right. Okay. Thank you very much. How talented he was, how good he was, and we got to be I think really good friends. And we have Europe coming in tomorrow and the next day and we have some other ones coming in. We’re doing things that have never been done in this country before. And our country is becoming very rich again. And that’s the way it should be. They’re not taking advantage of us. Keep it going. Mary’s very respected too, Chris. You know that she’s doing Heat. Heat. N. [Music]
