Japan appoints Sanae Takaichi 1st female PM, former Abe acolyte set to turn country hard right

Hardline conservative Sanae Takaichi was officially appointed as Japan’s first female prime minister by Emperor Naruhito on Tuesday, setting the country up for a decisive turn to the right.

An acolyte of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and an admirer of Britain’s Margaret Thatcher, Takaichi is expected to return to Abe-style government stimulus as she attempts to jumpstart an economy saddled with slow growth and rising prices.

Takaichi’s new cabinet only includes two women: fellow Abe disciple, Satsuki Katayama becomes the country’s first female finance minister while Kimi Onoda becomes economic security minister.

Global’s Nathaniel Dove reports.

  1. 何が極右だ。
    中道のふりをした極左メディアが撒き散らす偏向報道と危険思想から本来進むべき道に戻り、
    日本再生に向かっているだけ。

  2. This might be the last shot for the good old conservative. So many radical conservatives once stopped supporting the LDP because it was becoming liberal. Now most of them are alt-right muppets with no philosophy sadly. Takaichi may bring them back and prevent them from going too far.

  3. This will last about 10 minutes. Japan is like the Conservative Party of Canada. Men are in charge, men make the decisions, men crack the whip and women take the trip. This will last overnight and she will be gone. It's Japan.

  4. She'll be a breath of fresh air, huh! All the luck to ya. I recall hearing the pro tRump pre magats saying the same thing about him on his first go around🤨

  5. this woman might do something stupid to get herself into war with China. I think 99% chinese glad to see that 😅 we just need an excuse

  6. I wish Canada would rid the pale wealthy bankers and be more progressive. It's not time yet, Carney hasn't fully milked our system yet. Sigh….

  7. I hope she is a shining example of strong female leadership. No wokeism tokenism, just a Japanese leader leading the Japanese people and ensuring a strong Japanese future for Japan!

  8. Her role model is Margaret Thatcher. That tells you all you need to know about this tyrant. Also against same-sex marriage, which is totalitarian no matter what side you are on.

  9. Imagine thinking the words "hard right" are anything but descriptive. She literally looks up to Dead Maggie Thatcher, who was the scourge of the working class in UK.

  10. Japan's decline will continue under LDP leadership–this government has lots to say about Islam or Gender Issues, but rarely speaks to its own shortcomings
