How the U.S. Murdered Japan’s Economy (In One Day)
In 1985, Japan was on track to become the world’s greatest economic superpower. The land under the Imperial Palace in Tokyo was worth more than the entire state of California, and Japanese corporations were buying up American icons like Rockefeller Center. The U.S. government was terrified.
But on September 22, 1985, everything changed. In a secret meeting at the Plaza Hotel in New York, the U.S. forced Japan to sign a document that would wipe out trillions of dollars of wealth and send their country into a 30-year stagnation. This wasn’t a war fought with guns; it was an assassination committed with a fountain pen.
In this documentary, we uncover the true story of the Plaza Accord—the “Economic Pearl Harbor” that turned the Japanese Miracle into the Lost Decades. Discover how a currency trap, a real estate bubble, and a diplomatic betrayal destroyed an empire overnight.

From the Detroit area here, you mentioned the killing of Vincent Chin who was killed on the night of his bachlor party. The two jerks who killed him got probation and served no jail time. My understanding is that the Bank of Japan delivered the final kill shot by blowing a huge speculative bubble that burst at the end of 1989.
America kill one giant and woke another one, China arrise to become Japan
What about japan that bomb Peral

This is the reason why everyone wants to see USA fall. Me included.
That's what happens being a US lapdog, Germany is another good example.
Many idiots wanted to predict what the Chinese real estate crisis would look like by comparing it to the Japanese one, but they ignored the fact that the US pushed for economic policies that would sabotage the Japanese economy, and it certainly wasn't just about the currency exchange rate.
Crucial questions remain – why did Japan sign the Plaza accord? What was discussed in the meeting which forced Japan to sign it?
Now, not learning their lessons. Japan's PM has decided to be a vasal dog / proxy to the United States. The dog will be tossed in the garbage by the US masters as soon as the destruction starts. Japan will be devastated by hypersonic missiles. There is no one to blame but the dog who followed the master.
To make steel, Japan must import iron ore from Australia or Brazil, as well as import coal from South Africa or from Canada, and pay worker about the same salary than in US, then ship the steel to the US . In US, the use ore from Michigan and coal from Pennsylvania to smelt it in Ohio… And they cannot compete against Japanese steel on their own domestic market! And American keep thinking they are the most efficient… Think about it…
Atomic bombs, spine broken in plaza accord, and notwithstanding that and their so-called nationalism bows down to the hegemon
Sure the Japanese knew this but they never mind that. The Japanese loves America even more ! 😂
I remember it differently. Japan wanted to make Hawaii a joint territory. Then the US mobilized again. China, is going to learn the same lesson.
AI slop
The U.S. weakened Japan to bolster China—a move that certainly aged interestingly
Cos to America, Japan is still a colonised and conquered nation that have to bow down to its master will.
Total Stupidity
Japan property speculative bubble allows themselves to be blown
Won't work with China this time
After the Plaza Accord 1985, actually Yen was weakening not only to the USD, but ALL currencies in the world.
But how could this happen ???? Japan couldn't just change the exchange rate like that…. What was actually happening? Please explain !
US and G5 prop-up JP economy after the Korean and during the Cold War is not done out of charity but as a strategy to use JP to check mate China. This continue until JP became successful economically until the US and G5 felt threatenedZ that was when they pull the plug on JP. Now they are trying to do same to China. But good luck, China is not JP
