“Very bullish”: Canada signs multiple agreements with Japan during Carney visit

Canada and Japan have signed a new strategic partnership agreement on Friday that aims to boost co-operation on defence, energy, trade and technology. The pair signed three agreements including defence with Canada inviting Japan to participate in Arctic training missions.

“We’re intensifying defence and security cooperation from information sharing to joint exercises in the Indo-Pacific so that we can do more faster and protect our citizens,” Carney said, “We do much, but we’re ready to do much more,”

Japan expressed interest in Canadian energy, notably propane and liquified natural gas, as key Canadian imports with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi suggesting buying more Canadian energy is a key part of their own independence.

Canadian Ambassador to Japan Ian Mckay said, “I think they’re very bullish on Canada’s long term prospects to be a global supplier in volume for LNG.”

The agreements come at the end of Carney’s 10-day trade mission across Asia. Mackenzie Gray reports.

    So what is the total metric tonnage of natural gas they will be purchasing annually? What are the mineral deals included? How much oil will they be purchasing annually? What are the grains that they’re going to be purchasing annually? Any solid commitments on anything? Apparently not or they would be announced.

    I know the simple minded liberal voters will think Carney is doing amazing but, we already have all these agreements in place. This is nothing substantial coming from our weasel PM.

    We already have a trade agreement with Japan…this is just gaslighting to make Carney appear competent. The real focus of thr MSM should be the dire, and worsening state of our nation.

    "A Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) is a non-binding agreement outlining a partnership between parties to work together on shared goals, such as trade, research, or policy exchange" . Good times.

    If private industry in either country wants to export/invest in the other country, and it sees a financial gain from doing so, it's going to invest. Govts help by knocking down trade barriers. So what Carney is doing is significant. And sending the message that Canada is open for business is also very important. Optics in addition to agreements matter too.

    Make a story when the Canadian dollar makes it out of the 70 cent range and then we can talk, all these deals do not matter at all until Canadians dollar value actually increases, such as it was under the Harper years

    The deal with Japan is completely contingent on the upcoming CUSMA negotiations. Japan has already said that since 70% of all cars made in Canada are Japanese, if CUSMA is not renegotiated satisfactorily- they will pull all of their TOYOTA and Honda plants out of Canada. People need to stop praising Carney without all of the details.

    Signed more agreements, to agree to have more discussions , on more possible agreements ….. on possible MOU's …… sometime down the road !!!

    ~ In Mark Carney's world he did not come back to Canada out of the goodness of his heart… his ego paved the way to the path of his personal financial greed fed through a decade of Canadian Liberal failures… To him Canadians are just an inconvenient cannon fodder and nothing more than that.
    He is not invested in Canada, neither emotionally or financially.
    Even his wife and kids live in the USA.
    The proof in the pudding is that he has been televised telling his
    WEF (World Economic Forum) friends that he is "European" when given the chance and financially 91% of his holdings are secured in the US… Like he knew what he was going to do to Canada’s financial future.
    Canadians are both in the way and an avenue for him to enrich himself and Brookfield companies with lucrative contracts, a personal benefit to Mark Carney … $$$ Carney has proven himself both in England and Canada, as to not being a leader and just a “poser” in a suit who is out only for himself and his rich WEF buddies. He has intern, added to the historically worst damaged ever done to Canada’s financial future -the Liberal Party.
    Once his portfolio’s have been filled for decades to come because of future gains on contracts made now, you wont find him retiring anywhere in the financially bankrupt Canada… Carney this out-of-touch political grifter, will be back in Europe faster than you can say slippery-slimy-snake… abandoning all Canadians to deal with his tragic fiscal management and failed all-talk-no-action, Global diplomacy and with our historically largest trading partner, the USA that he has failed at miserably and blamed it on everyone but himself.
