Tokyo’s Toyosu fish market held its first tuna auction of 2025 on January 5. Traders swung into action as soon as the opening bell rang at 5 am, bidding on raw and frozen tuna from across Japan and around the world. The top item, a 276-kilogram bluefin tuna, was unloaded at the port of Oma in the northern prefecture of Aomori. The winning bidder paid 207 million yen, or about 1.3 million dollars — the second highest price on record. The highest bid ever is about 2.1 million dollars, at auction in 2019. #japan #fish #food #travel
