India Is World’s 4th Largest Economy, Overtaking Japan, Says NITI Aayog CEO

India has achieved a historic economic milestone. Nidi Aayok CEO BVR Subramanyam announced that India has now become the fourth largest economy in the world overtaking Japan citing recent IMF data. The fourth largest economy as I speak. We are a $4 trillion economy as I speak. And this is not my data. This is IMF data. India today is larger than Japan. So it’s only the United States, China and Germany which are larger and if we stick to you know what is being planned, what is being thought through, it’s a matter of another two two and a half to three years we would become the third largest economy. The announcement came after the 10th governing council meeting of NIO where the country’s robust geopolitical and economic outlook was praised. On global manufacturing concerns, Subramanim addressed US President Donald Trump’s recent remarks on Apple production. He stated that despite trade uncertainties, India remains a cost effective and competitive manufacturing [Music] hub. Looking ahead, he also revealed that a second round of asset monetization is in the works with key announcements expected by August. India’s economic ascent is not just a number. It’s a sign of what’s possible when vision, policy and global opportunity align. [Music]

    What's the point if we are lagging hugely in terms of gdp per capita…😑
    Accounting for gdp alone is crap
    We should try to lower poverty and feed more ppl. We have a longggg way to go!

    What is there to be proud about? Japan was the second largest economy in the world till recently even their population is only around 10 crore. India's population is 130 crore so what is there to be great about ? China is growing fast but at the same time they have eliminated the people 's poverty. That's real growth but here only a few industrialists are amassing the country's wealth.

    Means almost nothing. India is so much bigger than Japan that it means nothing. The per capita GDP is still abysmal. With its huge population its economy should be at least 50trillion dollars. It is nowhere near it. India needs to industrialize much more.

    PER CAPITA INCOME and median income of India is one of the lowest in the world, equivalent to African countries. Also Indias inequality adjusted human development index is one of the worlds lowest with huge inequalities in income, wealth, healthcare and education.
