India Surpasses Japan to Become 4th Largest Economy

The IMF projects India to be the fastest growing major economy in the next two years. The IMF also says Indian economy will grow at 6.2% in 2025 and 6.3% in 2026. The April edition of the world economic outlook report released by the IMF says that India’s nominal GDP for fiscal year 2026 is estimated to cross the projected GDP of Japan. Niti Aayog’s CEO BBR Subramanyam on Saturday informed that India surpassed Japan to become the fourth largest economy in the world. India today is larger than Japan. India’s GDP is estimated to reach $5 trillion by 2027 and $5.58 trillion by 2028. In the coming years, rising incomes and an expanding middle class will increase demand for consumer goods and services in India and a rapidly growing economy will create new jobs especially in technology, manufacturing and services. Globally, India’s influence will increase in international forums such as that of G20 and the International Monetary Fund. Foreign direct investment in India will increase further as global companies like Apple are looking at India not just as a market but as an attractive manufacturing destination. Moreover, strong strategic partnerships between India and Japan will promote stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
