Vietnam, France agree to strengthen tiesーNHK WORLD-JAPAN NEWS

Vietnam’s top leader Tolam met French President Immano Marron in Hanoi on Monday. They agreed to deepen ties in areas such as security, economic cooperation, and energy, including nuclear power. It will surely create new trends and opportunities for cooperation for the comprehensive strategic partnership relations between us. In the meeting, Mcronung reaffirmed France’s strong desire to strengthen collaboration with Vietnam in all areas. Mcronone told reporters that they signed deals worth about 9 billion euros in areas such as defense, aviation, energy, and railways. Vietnam faces challenges in relations with the US and China. The Trump administration has threatened to impose 46% tariffs on Vietnam. Beijing is strengthening its presence in the South China Sea, where it has territorial disputes with Hanoi. This is Mcron’s first trip to Vietnam since taking office in 2017. Last year, Lamb visited France. Hanoi aims to strengthen ties with the former colonial power as a third partner in addition to the US and China. Southeast Asia’s exports to the US are surging as a deadline near to end a 90-day pause on hiking what Washington has called reciprocal tariffs. In April, USbound exports from Southeast Asian countries shot up compared to the same month last year. They were up 45% from Malaysia, 34% from Vietnam, and 23% from Thailand. Exports of electronic components, apparel, and rubber products like automobile tires rose sharply. In addition to the Trump administration’s threat to slap the 46% tariff on Vietnam, it has floated tariffs of 36% for Thailand and 24% for Malaysia. While Southeast Asian officials scrambled to negotiate with the US, more companies have been trying to export goods ahead of schedule. But that solution could create another problem, a decline in exports in the second half of this year. In Vietnam, one garment factory has been ramping up efforts to export clothes to the US before Trump’s pause ends on hiking tariffs. The factory here in northern Vietnam has 4,000 workers. Now they’re racing to boost production capacity for US-bound goods. Government manufacturing is one of the country’s key industries. It provides about 3 million jobs nationwide. The US is the largest destination accounting for about 40% of Vietnam’s total government export value. But the facto’s president says he’s concerned about how the business will handle the future. Importers will have to raise their prices. If so, US consumers will buy less. We predict purchasing power in the US market this year will decline. He says that due to the situation, he’s considering shifting his exports to other markets including Russia and the Arabs bulletin. I’m Chapan ruler in Bangkok.
