malaysia suffered its deadliest road accident in over a decade 15 university students were killed when the bus they were riding in struck a minivan and overturned on Monday police say the bus was carrying 44 passengers when it hit the minivan on an expressway in northern Malaysia in the state of Perah the students were on their way back to the university in addition to the 15 dead 33 others were injured including the bus driver and attendant as well as the people in the minivan police suspect the bus went out of control they are investigating the cause of the accident prime Minister Anwa Ibrahim has instructed the education ministry to coordinate the necessary assistance to the families of the students now to the world’s third largest automarket India where the government has unveiled a plan to woo foreign automakers to build electric vehicles there it is offering to drastically cut import taxes for foreign automakers who pledge to set up EV factories in India the deal is for makers who invest around $500 million or more in new plants in return they can import a limited number of EVs at a 15% rate for 5 years currently tariffs are upwards of 70% the plan was originally aimed at attracting Tesla prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with its CEO Elon Musk earlier this year in Washington but the EV giant isn’t ready to bite tesla we are not actually expected from them they have only to start to showrooms they are not interested in manufacturing in India the government wants electric vehicles to make up 30% of domestic car sales by 2030 evs accounted for just 2.5% of total car sales in fiscal year 2024 stomach cancer is considered curable if it is discovered early in countries like Japan but in Bhutan it’s the leading cause of death the country has one of the world’s highest mortality rates from the disease now Japan is assisting efforts there to eliminate it hk World’s Yamamoto Kento reports gilif is a remote town in southern Bhutan in April the latest endoscope able to detect and treat stomach cancer was installed in Galifu’s only general hospital it’s part of a project supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency Oita University and others the project was initiated by Dr yamoka he’s a world authority on helicoacttor a main cause of stomach cancer 15 years ago Yamoka met Dr l Chering a former prime minister of Bhutan chering asked him for help hiding the disease professor Yoshu took a lot of interest i think we have a very very good future to work together where more Bhutanese can learn from Japanese system and Japanese standard in Bhutan there are not enough medical institutions capable of detecting stomach cancer at an early stage in many cases treatment comes too late since 2010 Yamoka has been investigating the infection status of helicoacttor pilori he conducted tests in the capital and rural areas he found that about 70% of residents were infected with the bacterium he also discovered the bacterium appeared to have a gene linked to higher toxin production than those found in other countries the first survey in 2010 found many more people than expected were infected with the highly toxic helicoacttor pelori when I first came to Bhutan local people did not know about stomach cancer had no interest in it and did not have endoscopes now Yamoka and his team are working to develop local production of helicopacillary test kits with the help of a Japanese government subsidy this simple test of a single drop of liquid containing a sample determines the presence or absence of the bacterium in about 15 minutes if realized this testing would cost less than one tenth of what it did before and more people could get checked yamoka is also training doctors every two months an endoscope doctor from Japan visits to give them technical guidance the number of local doctors has now increased to more than 20 this woman had been diagnosed with early stage stomach cancer now she has been cured if the disease wasn’t treated I would have died i’m so grateful there’s no pain in the past if you were diagnosed with cancer it meant the end of your life but now if you have early stage cancer you can be cured i think Bhutan will become a country where people can believe that in recent years early detection has led to a complete recovery in some patients thanks to experts from both Japan and Bhutan stomach cancer is gradually becoming a curable disease in the Himalayan nation yamamoto NK World that wraps up our bulletin
