next we meet a singer songwriter from Myanmar from his current base in Thailand he gives inspiration and help to his compatriots who dream of peace and democracy nhk World’s Shirou Yasuhiro reports non is 34 he is based in the Thai border town of Method many of his fans are people like him mama’s prolonged conflict following the coup prompted them to flee their country for Thailand his songs resonate with these revolutionary comrades both men and women and are well known non used to live in Yangong Yama’s largest city where he established his career as a singer and songwriter but a coup four years ago changed that right in front of my eyes I saw their injustice killing and violence for what I’ve been seeing my mindset became “It doesn’t matter anymore i’ll just pick up a weapon and fight back.” Non joined the pro-democracy military unit he fought for three years from bases in Karan state in southeastern Myamar but he lost many of his comrades i saw their images on the walls and the ceilings i couldn’t sleep at night how to say we’re like real brothers like real siblings so that was a big loss for me now Non is on a mission to fight back against the Funa military not through guns but through his music this song is about the man whose pregnant wife was killed by the military his tracks are posted on YouTube and social media and widely shared among my people living abroad his fans have donated about $60,000 so far non uses all his earnings from music to support people in Myammer he cooks meals which are secretly delivered to pro-democracy bases he also buys clothes and other essential items and sends them to dispressed people in camps one former comrade lost his arm and eyesight in battle the power of music will defeat even a large amount of weapons because of music changing the entire country is also possible a country where people live in harmony and support each other is what I want to see yasuhiro NHK World Method
