NHK’s decision desk says it may be difficult for the ruling coalition to maintain their majority in the upper house. And for the opposition, we project the largest constitutional Democratic Party could expand its seat count tonight. Also, the Democratic Party for the people and Sansto looks set to make significant gains. Here is where things stand right now. The coalition needs a total of 125 to form a majority. They already have 75 uncontested seats, but again, projections suggest it may be difficult for the Liberal Democratic Party and KTO to get the additional 50 they need. Right now, it seems they will hold a total of between 107 and 126 seats. And here’s where NHK’s decision desk says the opposition and others stand right now. Again, some of the parties are projected to make major gains. These projections are based on a joint exit poll conducted by NHK, Yomi Shinong, and Nepon TV and its NN affiliated stations. It targeted over 224,000 voters at about 1,700 polling stations nationwide. About 62% responded.
