Teachers in Japan arrested for secretly filming kidsーNHK WORLD-JAPAN NEWS
Last month, elementary school teachers were arrested for allegedly sharing secretly taken indecent images of school girls. A teacher in Nagoya City is believed to have create it created a group chat to share the photos and video clips. Investigators believe the group recruited teachers online who appear to be interested in varistic photography. Moria Yuji was indicted Tuesday on charges of secretly photographing a 9-year-old girl at a facility in Iichi Prefecture last year and sharing the images online. Investigative sources say Moryama appears to have been the group’s administrator. Consisting of nearly 10 elementary and junior high teachers, the group is said to have used Element, a highsecurity messaging app to exchange encrypted messages. Three members, including Modiama, who have already been arrested and indicted, are believed to have never met. Membership may have been limited to teachers to keep the existence of the group secret. About 70 images and videos were shared among the members. The material, much of it taken during school events and field trips, includes students changing their clothes. There were also reportedly deep fake composits that combined the heads of students with other sexualized images. Chat records apparently showed members commenting on each other’s posts. Police are working to identify the other members and learn more details about the group based on analysis of shared images, statements from the accused, and other sources. What was Muryama’s reputation as a teacher? Those who knew him have expressed surprise over his arrest. He was very open-minded and flexible with his students. I’m just full of shock and disbelief. He was quite popular, especially among the female students. He seemed like an older brother. My friends and I were saying, “Did you see the news?” He was always approachable and nice. I just kept thinking, why would he do something like this? The former student now reflects on how opportune the situation was for him. When he went on a field trip, he was in charge of photographing our activities. So, I guess the possibility was always there. According to investigators, a school-owned camera prohibited from being taken off campus was seized from Moryama’s home. He reportedly admitted to using it to secretly film students. Some parents have since come forward to say Moryama was frequently seen hanging around changing rooms. I can’t believe anything anymore. I don’t even know how we are supposed to judge whether a teacher is trustworthy. An expert points out it’s essential to implement measures for strict management and protection of data taken for schools. The incident occurred within a culture where there is a profound lack of awareness about the devastating impact sexual crimes can have on children. acts that in some cases can even cost them their lives. In light of this case, every school must begin to treat the issue as their own and seriously consider what concrete steps can be taken to eliminate it. Right, Reena? This news has really got parents worried even here in Tokyo. uh at a parent teacher meeting at my kids school last week, a father of two girls asked what measures the school would implement to prevent something uh similar from happening and you know he along with all the parents and guardians were very concerned. The education ministry appears concerned too. Um it held online meeting with school boards nationwide last week and asked them to take measures to prevent camera crimes. It encouraged the the regular inspection of classrooms and restrooms and banning the use of personal devices when filming students.
