The yellow light is now flashing for this man, Yokoa Debutant Onoato, in his pursuit of the Emperor’s Cup for the third consecutive time. He hit the deck for the third time this contest yesterday, handing out a Kimoshi to Iron Man Tamawashi. After 10 days, Ichiamoto protects his seat on the throne as sole leader and six Dikishi are in his rear view mirror with eight wins, two losses each. Onosato is now two off the pace. Many families with kids in the crowd here in Nagagoya. We’re ready to go to the action on day 11. We kick off with Kaio struggling at two wins, eight losses, taking on Oumi, who’s competing from the second highest Jurro division with a 6-4 record there. Now, these two have locked horns twice in Jurio and split the series one a piece. A slap in the face by the man in blue. Right hand outside for Oshomi and Kao goes down. Outside leg trip by the Jerro man and Oshoi advances to seven wins, four losses in Jerio. Kao suffers his ninth setback. Okay, here’s a highlight bout in the first half between Kanano 8 and2 versus Mitakomi with the same record. Up and cominging rookie sensation Kasano faces a former Ozaki who’s fighting in his 57th top division contest. Kasano marked his memorable Kachkoshi yesterday by staying on the offensive against Uda to win by Pukuridashi rear push out. Mitakumi stammed his eighth win yesterday as well. Equal touchi wants to get an inside position with the right. He pulls and then hits that nice drove him back after the tati butano does a nice pivot. A wonderful job by Kusano, the rookie, to go to nine wins, two losses. So, Kano prevails, staying in the hunt for the Emperor’s Cup. We take a look at the replay here. Mitakumi gets that right hand inside now. Grabs the mawashi. But as soon as Midakumi grabs the belt, look at the reflexes by Kano. Nice overarm throw. Looking confident. Next up, Midori Fuji. Six wins, four losses. And Hideomi, one win, seven losses, and two days sidelined. They went headto-head for the first time on top division soil in March 2021 when Hideenomi won by picked up his first win this B show yesterday. Fuji gets the better of the Tati. Gets an inside position on Hideomi and Hideomi has no more real estate. Midori Fuji proving his prowess over Hideomi in this tournament and beats him on top division soil for the first time. Fuji notches his seventh victory. Goes to seven and four. Right hand inside, left hand inside as well. He didn’t know center of gravity is just too high. We have Cottoho four and six fighting Tokihayate with the same record. Rookie Cottojo wants to dig his right hand inside and secure a left and outside grip on the mashi while Tokihayate seeks the opposite stance. Both men are halfway in their quest to a winning record this tournament. Goes inside trouble. Left hand inside for both men. Kokiate goes for a squeag at the edge and down goes the rookie. Kokiate was in trouble there but able to regroup and with the ropes behind him he strikes with that beltless arm throw. Five and six for Tokiate. Takanosho seven and three goes up against Koto 8 and2. Both hail from Chiba Prefecture near Tokyo. Koto slapped down his foe in May by Hatakikomi and is now slightly ahead in their series 6 to five. Both men on a roll with five wins in a row from day six. Who can make it six? Inside is Koto and out goes Takanosho in a blink of an eyeto with authority scores win number nine. So he keeps his name on the leader board with two losses. Gets a double hand inside position immediately. right hand in deep for him. After that, winning by Yorikiri. We go to Atami Fuji. Seven wins, three losses, fighting Shai 6 and four. Atami Fuji holds a 3 to1 advantage in their rivalry after escorting out Shoddai by Yorikiri in May. Atami Fuji aiming to grab a Kachoshi in back-to-back tournaments. Shoddai took care of Sadanomi yesterday by squeag in a veteran faceoff. Good hit by both men. Left hand outside grip for Shoddai. Atami Fuji getting that left hand outside grip. Looking to solidify that right hand inside. Shai in trouble now. And Atami Fuji. The man in red securing his Kachkoshi. His first back-to- back winning records since November 2023. Fuji goes to eight and three. Extends his winning streak to three. Left hand outside grip for Shai. Shoddai trying to make good use of that. Mawashi, but he loses balance and Atami Fuji hits the gas. You have a great smile. Oh, I’m just happy that I won. You allowed the outside grip to show today. Well, I just wanted to do what I always practice and what I’m taught at my stable and I’m happy that uh it resulted in a good win. You have a lot of Yodiki victories this tournament. Instead of having a good result, I just wanted to do my best every single bout. You have a great result so far. Thank you very much. I’ll do my best against the top rankers. Next up, it’s Shishi. Three wins, seven losses, and Chio. Zero wins, 10 losses. Their first clash in Makunoi last November went Chio’s way after he thrusted down his Ukrainian foe. Shooting in is Chio and slapping away great left hand outside grip. Shioama tries that throw, but look at Shishi exerting his sheer power over the Mongolian. And Shishi wins by Skuag beltless arm throw. Chio falls to 11 consecutive losses from opening day. And Shishi improves to four wins, seven losses, snapping his five bout losing streak. It’s Udura 6 and4 versus Fujinoa with the same record. Ura hails from Osaka Prefecture in western Japan while newbie Fujinoa comes from neighboring Kyoto. Ura suffered backto-back losses for the first time this bash show yesterday. Fujinoa hopes to produce two more victories in the remaining five days for Akachoshi. Both going in really sharp and low. Thrusting away is the man in blue Uda gets inside the rookie kitchen and down goes Fujinoa. Mr. Pink and Mr. Popular Uda gets the victory and the fans in the arena love it. Uda awakens the crowd advances to seven wins, four losses with that Oshidashi victory. Turning to Sadanomi 2 and 8 going up against Asakori with the same record. Asakoryu has dominated the series here, taking all three of their encounters in Makunochi. He’s desperate to use his advantage in the rivalry over his opponent here to escape a seven bout losing streak. Senomi wants to break out of a threeb losing streak. A shift to the left by Asakoru and sticking to the veteran. Asakoru immediately takes care of Sadanomi by Okuridashi. Rear push out. Spectators surprised with that quick move by Asakoru. So he improves to three and eight, snapping that seven bout losing streak. moving to the left right after the tati and pushing him out win for Asaku. We go to Tobisadu three and seven going against Loa 6 and four swift Tobisadu pushed down his opponent from Russia by Oshawhi when they first clashed last November. Tobizaru at the brink of demotion next contest. Roga has four wins in a row after losing four straight. Tobaru tries to get an inside position on Roa, but Roa catches him. Roga holding Tobaru’s elbow separates once. Once again, Roga trying to lock up Tobis. Tobaru gets that left hand in deep. Looking to get something started. Here is Tobaru on the right. Electric by Loa. Tobaru now tries that leg attack. Loa stays in contention. He allows that double hand inside position to Tobaru, but Loga takes him down by a powerful Kotag arm lock throw. A series of tricks from both men and Loa finishing off Tobaru by Kot Nag. That’s a Makoshi losing record for Tobaru. Unfortunately, Loga goes to seven and four, extends his winning streak to five. It’s now Chiranomi 5 and five versus Guloyama 6 and four. Both made their top division promotion in 2023, but they’ve only clashed once last September when this man Goyama shoved out his foe by Oshidashi. Chaminoi looks to pick up three more victories for his first Kachikoshi since Marchama taking back Chanomi right away. Chanomi in trouble. Regrouping well with that right hand inside. He uses that left hand. Maya grip well. his favorite to come from behind and win by Okuridashi. Chiranomi using that lifeline of that left hand may grip to control the match at the end. Left hand frontal grip there for the man in purple. And that’s why he’s able to stay in contention there. He grabs it again with the left. Uses that for a dashi nag to break his balance and wins by okuridash. It’s now four and six fighting Takeru Fuji five and five. These two made it to Makunoi last year and Taker Fuji has come out on top in both their meetings here so far. On Katu seems to be finding his rhythm after outlasting Tamawashi and Wakamoto. Takuji seems eager to punch out three more victories to prevent a Mak Koshi. Left hand in for Taker Fuji taking back on still regroups a little bit. And look at Taku Fuji crumbling to the Doho. And it looks like Taker Fuji went down with the knee. So, it’s a knee touchdown. Non-winning technique for Nokatu getting the nod and improving to five and six. Let’s take another look. Slap from the right by Taku Fuji. Taku Fuji trying to stay lower than Ono Katu. On Katu does a good job of staying in the ring here. He regroups well and takes back Taku Fuji and then Taku Fuji falls. We have Oho 3 and seven versus me 3 and seven as well. Me has overwhelmed Oho in their four meetings so far. Both these combatants aim to prevent an eighth setback here this Basho to avoid a losing record in Nagagoya. Nice hit by me. Taking back Oho right away. Oho allows that right hand outside grip for me. But me just not able to use that grip on the mashi in any way. And Oho wins by Yoroshi frontal crush out. Oho showing great perseverance there. And Mei suffers a Mak Koshi this contest. Oho scores win number four with that Yoroshi victory. Good Tati for a meay in black. But he loses balance as Oho slips to the left. Oho gets that left hand inside. He stays in a lower position than meen wins. Next up, Hiadomi five and five going against Wakamoto 2 and eight. Both entered the top tier in 2022. Hiomi leads the rivalry 4-2, but it’s Wakamoto beating him in their two encounters this year. Okay, Wakamo trying to raise Hiadi. Hiomi resisting. Hiomi now tries to take back Wakamoto but gets rolled down. Wakamoto uses that Hatakcomi at the edge as he circled to the side taking down Hiadomi in the process. Okamaru improves to three and eight and snaps his four bout losing streak. It’s Aishki 8 and2 fighting Abi 6 and four. These ferocious pushers are fighting for the very first time. Abby knows his Ukrainian foe has what it takes to climb to the upper echelon. Anishki dealt with Kiman yesterday, pulled him down by Hyotoi to achieve a kachoshi in 11 straight tournaments since his appearance at the lowest Joni division. A slap by Abi. Abi almost losing balance. Aishki and Abby both honking heads and staying very low. Aishki keeping that low position has that left hand in deep and takes down uh Abi by Yori. Look at that performance by the Ukrainian Aishki maintaining that low stance throughout the bout. Abby seems all right after both plunge down the doyo. Alishki protects his two loss record here on day 11. Nine and two for him, extending his winning streak to five. A slap in the face by Abi from the left trying to take him down as Aonishki, but Abi holds his ground. You can see both keeping that low posture. A Nishki uses that powerful lower back and abs to stay in contention here. Abby grabs the end of the mawashi but can’t do anything. Now to a crucial match of day 11 between soul leader Ichyamaamoto nine wins, one loss versus Komasubi Takayasu, seven and three. Checking their history, Takayasu has a 4 to2 lead after taking down Ichyamoto in both March and May.amoto maintained the sole leader position yesterday after pushing down me whom he’s never beaten before. Takayas endured an excruciating bout with Oho yesterday, staying patient, forcing him out by Yorikiri eventually. Nice elbow blast by Takayasu. Iamoto staying in contention thrusting away. Great sumo byamoto, the sole leader, trying to stay lower than Tagasu, but Takayasu pivots, hits that beautiful nag from the right. What a hurling move by Takayasu to come from behind. So Komasubi Takayasu goes up to eight and three securing his Kachkoshi.amoto puts up a great fight against the Komasi but suffers his second set back. We now have no Dishi with a one loss record. Thrusting away both men after the Tati showing good footwork but Hakayasu showing his striking into continuously and at the end getting that right hand in pivoting well here and using that perfect timing. Unbelievable sumo you show today. Well, I’m happy. You started with a kachiag elbow blast in the initial charge. Well, I wanted to have a good initial charge. I went all out. This kachoshi winning record must be very meaningful for you as a sagu man. It’s been a while. Yes. Well, I don’t want to give up. wanted to um continue my style of sumo. I’m happy I got a winning record. Look forward to your uh sumo for the remaining four days. Next, let’s go to Ooma. Two wins, eight losses fighting Kim Bosan with the same record. These 28-year-olds were big names in collegiate sumo. They turned pro together and on top division soil, Mongolian Osha has a 4 nothing lead. Double hand attack by Kim Bosan. Kim Bzan gets that left hand outside grip. It’s shaken off immediately by his Mongolian foe. Right hand in deep for Kim Bosan. Left hand outside grip for Osh. O wants to make good use of that. But before that, it’s Kim Bzan with a dynamic underarm throw to take down Ooma for the very first time. So Kimboan beats his nemesis for the first time, improving to three wins, eight losses. It’s Hakuho 6 and4 versus Wakatak with the same record. These warriors have flashed down in Jerio twice, but are facing off for the first time in Makunoi. Hakoho picking up the pace after that Kimoshi upset on day eight over Yokoa Uno. Both men here looking sharp on a threebound winning streak. Very sharp and low. Akoho trying to get his favorite left hand inside taken back but now he reverses the field and wins by Yodi Kitty Hakuo had him at the edge but couldn’t go in for the kill there looking strong with authority moving to seven wins, four losses. Excellent tachi by both men. Little lower is he can’t get that grip. Hakuho does a good job blocking that. Hakuo as he digs in for that left hand. He gets a little bit high and Wakatag finishes him off. It’s Ozaki Koto Zakura. Five wins, five losses and Tamawashi 8 and2. The Ozaki holds an overwhelming 9 to3 edge in their rivalry. Tamashi eyes and Ozaki scalped today after creating a big upset yesterday over Zakura has taken eight of their last encounters. Tamawashi driving back the ozigi but kind of slips after the tati and it’s a quick victory for Koto Zakura by Hikotoshi hand pull down Tamashi not able to show the type of suno he’s been exerting take another look in taking backto zakura Zakura uses that Hyotoi hand pull down to take him down. We wrap up day 11 with Siki Kirishima 8 and2 meeting new Yokosa Unosato seven and three. Onato maintains an unblenmished record against the former Ozaki defeating him in all six occasions. He bit the dust for the third time to a Mayagasha ranking filer this basho. Kishima secured a winning record for July yesterday. Nice equal touchi. Right hand outside grip for not his usual stance. Kirishima wants to finish him off with that double hand inside position. Right hand outside grip forato. He makes good use of it to hold his ground. And it’s winning via hide twisting. Hirishima at the edge and hitting that twisting overarm throw. Onato dodging the bullet here on day 11. Onosato not losing in back-to-back days advancing to eight and three for his kachoshi. He can’t get his right hand inside. He can’t use that left hand. Utske forearm block but he has that right hand outside grip on Kirishima. Kishima wants to go in for the kill with that left hand in. But look at using that twisting move. So after 11 days, it’s four men with a 92 record. All rank and filers and six dikishi trailing behind with three losses a piece. That’s all for this broadcast of Grand Simo Highlights. Thank you very much for watching and make sure you join us again for more DSco action to come on day 12.
