U.S. President Donald Trump announced a trade deal with Japan on Tuesday. Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba praised the trade deal that lowered the hefty tariffs imposed by the U.S.

Japan’s top negotiator Ryosei Akazawa said they reached an agreement that would be “beneficial” to both Japan and the U.S.

The agreement, including a 15 per cent tariff on all imported Japanese goods, down from a proposed 25 per cent, is the most significant of the string of trade deals the White House has reached ahead of an approaching Aug. 1 deadline for higher levies to take effect.

While the financial market was happy, Norihiro Yamaguchi, lead Japan economist at Oxford Economics, said he’s not optimistic about Japan’s economic growth.

“The effective tax rate on Japanese products will stand at around 17%, according to our calculation, which is significantly higher than previous level.,” Yamaguchi said.

  1. Deals have been made with the Uk, Vietnam, Indonesia, and now Japan. Trillion dollar investments in the American market secured and committed by Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Shows how Americans think so little of Canada. Americans do not want anything to do with Canada anymore. They’ve moved on. So get ready Canada, those 35% tariffs are coming soon!

  2. Japan seems to be constantly losing to the U.S., but winning. Japan holds a huge amount of U.S. Treasuries but does not yet see the U.S. as a threat enough to play the trump card of Treasuries.

  3. I'm missing the actual numbers involved. Not surprising that no totals were included in a Trump deal and it would require actual reporting to look up the numbers from last year ,to the estimate of what Trumps claims. Global News, a clearing house for government propaganda.

  4. Awesome. Only 15% tariffs on the best cars in the world. And in what way is it the biggest deal in history. No definition or details. Just the usual bag of me, I, me, I…

  5. Well it is great for the USA 550+ billion in investment from Japan and USA get 90% of the profit and Japan gets 10%. That deal sucks for Japan lutnick was licking his chops. Not sure how the Japanese are actually going to feel about it. Fair for all I don’t think so.

  6. The stable genius is all talk. Nothing ever comes out of these deals. The corporations usually just wait until he’s no longer in office.

  7. Trump and this administration are so stupid. You can see the Japanese people are trying not to laugh in his face, which is unusual, considering they are normally so straight faced. Good on Japan to take advantage of this administration having zero understanding of how things work! What about those Epstein files?

  8. 실제 계약서 없이는 저협상이 진짜인지 못 믿겠네 저 관세15%도 3년고정이 아니라 미국이 분기별로 수정한다고 했고
그냥 관세맞고 1년간 국가가 보조해주는 편이 더 나을듯

  9. Congratulations America, product from Japan will now cost you 15% more. In the meantime Canada and Japan are expanding trade every year “DUTY FREE”
