I am a s Yoshino cherry blossom tree. I live here at this school in Hiroshima. Back in 1945, an atomic bomb detonated in the sky above me. And in this scorched and hopeless moment, I met Sadako. Since then, she and others in the city have cherished me. Sadako, how are you? [Music] After the bombing, everyone said no plants in Hiroshima would grow for over 75 years. But look, my friends and I budded a new. [Music] We a bomb survivor trees have been protected. Each of us has a story. Me and Sadako. [Music] I’m good. I’m happy to see you looking so well. Let me introduce my special friend, Su Masa Sadako. Sadako was 11 years old when the bomb dropped. Look at her drawings of that fateful day. She was injured, but her mother more so. Every day, Sadako tended to her. And at school, she cleared rubble from the grounds. Sometimes she even came across the bones of victims. [Applause] That’s when I started to bloom again. I’m so glad my cherry blossoms bring such joy. Sadako’s right. I’m getting old. [Music] People have been giving me extra care now. But some of my friends are dying [Music] now. People are saving their seeds. You’re welcome. So our bonds will never be broken. Today, our children are being raised in over 40 countries. It’s so special to save the seeds and to share them with as many people as possible. Um, so that the trees memories can share people’s memories. Sad, but hopeful. Never forget, I’ll always be standing with you.
