Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Japan on Friday (Aug 29) for a two-day visit aimed at strengthening bilateral and regional ties, with trade and investment high on the agenda. The trip comes ahead of his travel to China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit in Tianjin. Seijiro Takeshita, professor of management and information at the University of Shizuoka, tells CNA’s Asia Now why the timing of Modi’s visit is significant.

Japan is a technological hub. Domestically it got saturated but Japan's businesses all are mostly away from Japan. To create balance in trade, monopoly and dominance of one country i.e., China, Japan need to increase its presence and strength in india as per the relative competition from other countries.
