MAZDA was founded in 1920 in Hiroshima, Japan. In the mid-1990s the Japanese economy hit a downturn, so Mazda reinforced an alliance with Ford and began to focus on its brand strategy. Under its “Millenium Plan,” Mazda shut down some factories and laid off a portion of the workforce in an effort to focus on car models that embodied the brand’s DNA.
During the period between 1996 and 2009, Mazda also adopted the slogan “Zoom-Zoom.” According to Kenny Ross Mazda in Pennsylvania, “It encapsulates the brand’s dedication to delivering exhilarating driving experiences. Whether you’re behind the wheel of a sporty sedan or an SUV, Mazda aims to infuse every drive with a sense of joy and connection between the car and its driver.”
At the end of this period, Ford sold its stocks in the company and ended its management of Mazda.
