hello everyone welcome back to the channel Glopen guess where we are today look around us does it look a little bit like Japan to you well actually today we are in Shanghai and this is supposed to be the best place for Japanese food in the whole of China and some people even joked that here you can have better Japanese food than in Tokyo so in order to test that out we have our special guest today Elena you wanna introduce yourself yeah hi i’m Elena i’m from Japan so Elena have you ever been here before have you tried out the Japanese food around no it’s my first time and you haven’t tried out any Japanese food here yet okay do you believe that it can be better than in Japan i don’t think so you don’t think so well let’s find it out so are you hungry now Elena i am you know what do you want to try out next hmm maybe some okonomiyaki or yakitori okay so we’ll try to find some around i’m excited so now we’re coming in to a local famous Japanese restaurant called bingcheng Wu in Japanese i think will be called he say yeah it’s quite popular amongst the locals so let’s have a look inside and try if you think it’s authentic or not one interesting fact about this restaurant is that it is also famous because of a tv series that was quite popular called my first half of life so what do you think about the decoration and the vibes i think it does look really Japanese but the store name is hisui which is the time period i was born in and that’s pretty recent and i feel like the vibe of the store is a bit older older older than that period of time older than heisei but i think it does look Japanese okay let’s go in and have a look so i asked her what is the recommended dish she said spicy chicken i don’t think that’s a Japanese dish so if you look at the decoration inside and the cartoons they are showing do you think that it represents that period i feel like it does show hisse like the posters up there seem more hisse but the i must be off the rest part i think it’s very Japanese i think it’s like a very typical tattoo you know all the cartoons here except this one i think this is this is not yes so give it a try it tastes similar to like normal Japanese karaage but it’s spicy which is not really Japanese but i think it’s good yeah i liked it and it’s for Chinese it doesn’t taste that spicy there’s a little bit of spicy but not that much it’s pretty spicy for me yeah it is i like it yeah that’s good i think it’s just similar to what i would have yeah not similar to what you had in Japan it’s called um jiu Tang Tang is like the tongue mm hmm yeah it’s pretty good a little bit salty though this is my favorite type of Ramen Ramen yeah they have the favorite type of Ramen i actually like Ramen a lot but i don’t have like a favorite one i think most Ramen i had i liked it i think the typical is like the shoyu Ramen which is like the normal soy sauce then there’s like tonkatsu and then there’s also like tonkatsu show you which is like both the between so you go first i feel like the broth isn’t as flavorful but the ramen tastes good anything else you will comment on i feel like this is less salty i know that’s salty yeah usually i feel like it’s a bit more salty and the gyudon was pretty salty but this is just pretty low on salt so Elena compared to a authentic Japanese restaurant that you would know how would you rate this restaurant from the ranking zero to 10 i think i would give it a five out of 10 okay i think overall it was pretty good but you might i really like the skewers the two skewers are really good a few minus points for the dish not being Japanese because yeah the spicy one especially dish and the ramen i think the broth could have been a bit more flavorful and had a bit more salt okay but overall i think it was good and i really like the dessert wait are you ready for the next round yes so let’s go so now we are in Jinghong chow there’s actually a place here called jay town which i think stands for Japanese town and here you can see a lot a lot of Japanese restaurants and something we found very interesting here is about the sushi i feel like the sushi here in this photo reminds me of the ones in the us because in Japan the sushi rolls are usually they have like the seaweed on the outside and then in a lot of the us ones they have the seaweed on the inside and then they also don’t really use a lot of mayonnaise in Japanese sushi so i feel like so it’s not gonna be something you’re looking forward to yeah i feel like this place really reminds me of Japan like the lanterns yeah the atmosphere is really Japanese now the menus too yeah they look pretty good anything you want to try a few minutes later okay i think you want change this one right how do you say it in Japanese um this dish is called okonomiyaki okonomiyaki and then this one’s from shiroshima shiroshima means it’s like a place in Japan so that’s the one with the noodles okay maybe we can have some some vegetables and then i wanted to ask you one thing this thing do you drink it yeah yeah it’s very popular in Japan okay because i thought that is a Chinese made of Japanese thing oh no it’s really popular in Japan okay you want to try it oh yeah now we can take one of these feel like this menu this reminds me of Japan because in Japan they have a lot of like photos for their menus so it’s easier to like visualize to choose yeah i like it as well nowadays it’s all in the phone and you scan with the qr code but yeah this is more it’s hard to picture with just like the name of the dish have a try you have this also in Japan i feel like in some stores they do but it’s not as common not common but it’s good i think the flavor is very simple just salt and then it tastes good so you can try you let me know if you need help think usually you take it out like this i think it’s like that no i can do it myself thanks like when you’re eating okonomiyaki this is very common hmm do you have something like Bonaparte in Japanese itadakimas itadakimas yeah before you use it yeah we don’t really have something like head in Chinese we just start eating itadakimas before you and then got so samadhi stuff after you eat i feel like the noodles the Okonomiyaki with the noodles isn’t as common in Japan it’s usually the normal Osaka one but in Hiroshima this is the very typical Hiroshima Okonomiyaki and how do you like it in terms of the taste and the ingredients is it similar i think it’s very similar i liked it usually has like similar the flavor of the sauce i think in terms of um like Okonomiyaki Hiroshima and Osaka i think tastes pretty similar it’s more of like the texture is different because the sauce they use is like so right so it’s just one is noodles and then the other is just the pancakes pancakes so what do you think how would you rate it i think i would give this a four out of ten four out of ten yeah the flavor itself was good there were just a lot of bean sprouts in it at the bottom and the bean sprouts didn’t have that much sauce in it right so i just felt like as mostly eating bean sprouts and there also wasn’t that much pork in it there was not much what pork pork yes i like that pork yeah me too i don’t think it was it was okay okay so Elena i’ve heard that here there is a very famous torayaki shop you want to have a try yes great oh wow they have some donkeys here wow so cute so you know what you want maybe the normal one or the Oreo Oreo yeah these are very like unique unique except this one this is a very typical yeah original but this one as well you’ve not seen it before no and i don’t think in Japan they don’t really eat taro taro isn’t really common okay let’s have a look so we have two one is Oreo cheese salty cheese flavor and i think this is for you and then this one is a chocolate genzis yeah chocolate chestnut flavor so i’m really looking forward to it the packaging is really cute yeah it does look quite cute i really like it you like it it’s really good it’s slightly chewy and then it’s like i think cream cheese mm hmm but it’s not overly sweet i like the texture it’s like really chewy kind of like a cake so you’re gonna finish it i think i will i really like this this is really good the chestnut flavor is really really strong and mixed with this chocolate so it’s really balanced it’s not that sweet it’s really moist like it’s not dry like the cake is like i think so it doesn’t taste this much like a cake i feel like and there’s also not really like chocolate cream cheese flavors the typical torayaki has like the normal pancake with the red bean paste this one’s very much more like a American like cake but i still really like it it’s really good i think i think i would do this like a ten out of ten i really like this cake oh my god wow stay in school kids yeah i really like this this place because everything on the menu is written handwritten in Japanese and Chinese and i think our neighbors they’re also speaking Japanese i think they are this restaurant is really Japanese i think gives you that that vibe right yes so you know what you want to order i’m gonna take take a while to decide there’s a lot of things there’s a lot of things yeah yeah indeed a few minutes later so i think she mentioned that this is some kind of fish it’s a appetizer and it’s fried and then dipped into a vinegar sauce so have a try i’ve never seen this before it’s not bad i really like it you like it it has this very refreshing taste i feel like i’ve had something similar in Japan yeah it’s really tasting and refreshing i really liked it it’s very good as an appetizer that like makes you more hungry especially in the summertime try yeah have a try it feels really fresh it tastes really good can you tell where is it from no but it does taste really good but it does taste good it tastes really fresh the salmon also tastes really good yeah so you don’t need it with mustard um Jim smells really good i really like it shrimp also tastes really good yeah it’s fresh wow that’s our next round so what do you think about these dishes do they look authentic to you i think they all look really authentic they look really good i’m really excited to try them out yeah you want to get started i think we can start from these and then we probably need to wait a bit for the it’s really good this is really offensive i think even in Japan i would consider this really good food yeah so it does make up to what people say it’s one of the best in Shanghai i would agree this really reminds me of home i’ll have this one as well this is really good i think this is like konagi i would find in Japan so it’s really crispy outside juicy inside really juicy yeah i like it a lot i feel like this place doesn’t feel like it’s in Shanghai it feels like it’s almost like you’re visiting and i’ve been i’m taking you to a good Japanese restaurant yeah that’s great it is also why we’re here right that we also give you that kind of feeling enjoy think i really like the broth sorry the broth like the soup and the soup okay so this is their number one dish in this restaurant it’s rice with snapper and this is of course the soup that comes with it yeah Mrs soup so yeah you want to have a try i think it’s very interesting because i think they smash the right the rice together with the fish so that the fish is not that visible but i think it should be really good they also have some taco but is it like Japan one because this looks very this the yellow one sorry yeah looks very Japanese yeah because the green one is very Chinese i think i could also find the green one the yellow one is the most common one hmm it’s like Japanese rice hmm the flavor is really nice it’s not like too strong but you can definitely taste it i really like it cause it’s mixed with the rice i love the rice too it’s like Japanese rice and it tastes like i don’t know how to describe it but hahaha but it’s good it’s really good let’s get started this is really good Matcha ice cream it’s not overly sweet i think i taste the Matcha so it’s real Matcha not artificial flavor that we were talking about Japan were like a lot of things with Matcha with Matcha ice cream Matcha drinks i know there’s also matcha beer could be yeah i’ve seen it before but i don’t know what it tastes like i think it was a few weeks ago i even had white tea beer in China white tea beer so it’s like a specific kind of very famous white beer i’m sorry very famous white tea and they use that flavor to create a beer so overall how would you rate this restaurant in terms of appetizer the main dish as well as the dessert i think i would give this place a nine out of ten overall it was really good i think the food was very authentic like things i would find in Japan and i would consider a really good restaurant even if it was in Japan i think i just subtracted one point for the beef tongue being kind of sweet because i was expecting it to be salty and maybe the dessert i would have wished if there was something a bit more than ice cream but i still think it’s very good ice cream so i would rate this place nine out of ten it’s been really good cool way that you enjoyed it i also enjoyed the atmosphere quite a lot the entire atmosphere and and the service as well i think it was really really nice the people i think next to us are both Japanese that says a lot huh it feels like we’re in Japan so this is going to be our very last restaurants in this video what do you want to have as our ending maybe we could go to like an izakaya yeah you want to have a drink maybe yeah okay cool so i think there is one right at the end so let’s have a look so how about this one this one looks good yeah let’s let’s try it out is that something you’re expecting does that look similar to what you expect i think it does i’m really excited to try that yeah so should we start with the drink first or how would you start you want to start with the drink okay smells really good so cheers do you like it i do it’s not that strong with very i really like the tastes really smooth and tranquil so i think a lot of people often eat it with like sushi or like sushi meat mm hmm should we try yeah let’s get started i’m hungry it’s yummy let’s get started do you normally add the the lemon juice on it or just yeah without just squeeze the lemon usually what is actually the minimum drinking age in Japan minimum drinking age in Japan is twenty oh so you hahaha yeah what it’s really hot it’s really good i like the lemon like the lemon on it it’s really crispy i think it’s really well seasoned mm hmm it’s um i think it’s less salty than the previous one that we had the previous group the previous group that we had so this one is really interesting is the chicken skin right so have a try this is actually one of my favorites oh really it’s not as crispy that i would expect this is also very well seasoned i think the seasoning is fine but i would prefer it a bit more crispy so Elena how would you rate your overall experience for this restaurant including the dishes as well as this the sake i think i would give it a five out of ten okay i really like the skewers but i think the karaage didn’t taste too authentic and then in terms of your whole experience today how would you comment on it i really like it it’s really good i like the texture i really like this i still really like it it’s really good i think i really enjoy trying out all the dishes and i think all the restaurants really reminded me of Japan with the posters and everything i think they’re really similar to what i would find in Japan right and in terms of your favorite dish which one would it be i think it’d be the torayaki that i had i guess though yeah it wasn’t a typical Japanese torayaki but i still think it was really like it really tasted good and i think i definitely recommend it to my friends okay great so thank you so much for watching that’s basically the
