Japan PM Ishiba says US tariffs ‘extremely regrettable’

The freshly announced US tariffs are likely to be a political blow to Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, who has expressed extreme regret and disappointment. With ratings for Mr Ishiba and his Cabinet already sliding, the government is taking immediate action to help cushion the impact. Mr Ishiba met US President Donald Trump face to face in February and stressed that Japan has been the US’ largest foreign investor since 2019. Japanese automakers alone have made direct investments of US$418 million and created 2.3 million jobs in the US. Michiyo Ishida reports.

  1. I know this is a crazy thought and no offence whatsoever. I'm just expressing my thought.
What if they don't import goods into US and those manufacturers don't move their production factories to US? Let's say if they move their factories to US, it's made in USA then. Some countries (for now. The whole world in the future.) are already boycotting made in USA products. There's risk. But if they can't or don't want to import to US, there are many countries left. They can still import to the rest of the world, except US. USA isn't the only country exists in this world, you know. So, I wonder how would they deal with this issue? 🤭

  2. What's tariffs, all are numbers , in the end consumers have to pay , if not necessary then don't buy, love within means everything will be fine. Not end of the world, sun still rose and set birds still chipping

  3. Free trade should mean no tariffs from both sides, but Japan has been charging tariffs for decades, that’s definitely not free trade on their side
