Japan’s Population is Falling Fast:

  1. Not just Japan but all of East and Southeast Asia. YouTube has made that region of the world the most travelled and the most tourist filled by far. Also, the lower costs and paradise settings just make it even more attractive to Westerners who want an affordable, exotic vacation with the best food.

  2. Stop going to the same places everyone else goes. Problem solved. Went to Kamakura on my most recent trip, and it felt like there were nothing but locals going about their business with a few tourist in certain places. Trains weren't packed either.

  3. Authorities should BAN Airbnb asap. but…but…tourism will become more expensive. So be it!! You're not entitled to disrupt the lives of people who actually live in a place no matter how beautiful and instagrameable it is! Wanna visit? Go to a hotel!

  4. 5:23 I think this is the biggest issue. Everyone is going to the same place in Japan where as in USA which gets 79 million tourist we don’t even notice it as they go to places all across the country. If everyone was flooding the same 3 places it would way more noticeable to the average American.

  5. pure and simple when you let too many ppl in there will be issues. Don't think of blaming it all on the chinese, too many white ppl in Japan now

  6. Isn't Japan #1 racist country in the world? Shows kind of spoiled wealthy (thieves)tourists going there. Enough kkkusa racism here in boston area, no thanks keep yer Japan for kukluxkristians like you know who

  7. No to 2 tier pricing except if attractions are subsidized by local taxes. Eg castle supported by local authorities. a hard no to restaurants which aren't supported by local taxes. With the overseas tourist boom, aren't local businesses which benefit eg hotels, shops and restaurants paying more tax?

  8. I always tell people this! If you still wanna experience real Japan with barely any western tourists… go to Kyushu, amazing food and Fukuoka is an amazing city with a good vibe and nightlife. The whole island is amazing

  9. Tourism makes up only a small portion of the GDP. While cultural exchange is important, it’s not worth sacrificing the quality of life of local residents

  10. Governments, local and national, had 3 years to beef up tourism infrastructure but especially in Kyoto, they hardly did anything and they’re now reacting to the crunch. So that should be a warning to up and coming destinations like Kanazawa, Hokkaido and the Shimane region, to prepare. However, the nature of social media is to blame for most of these problems. Japan is now trendy, so all the TikTokkers are now coming here with their stupid attention-grabbing antiques. These people and most first-timers don’t bother to read about Japan’s unique culture and learn how to respect it, as a guest to the country. Forget that for a second, they don’t even have common sense, like you go to a place of worship or sacred place, don’t scratch and vandalise the structures ffs….🤦🏻 That’s what happens when air travel is so affordable now that low-income, likely less-educated people can travel to Japan.

  11. 4:10 well, funny how everyone is concerned about locals everywhere EXCEPT the US! What about the huge migrant influx and how it has taken NYC to the brink! What about the millions of tourists who visit and strain the system there!?

  12. What will naturally happen is Japan will gradually increase the cost of being a tourist until they find the right balance, because let's be honest Japan is ridiculously cheap for the experience they offer. Finding that balance will also benefit their neighbors, as surplus tourists who may not be able to afford Japan anymore might go to Korea, China, or even Singapore instead. This was something New Zealand did as the struggled with over tourism just before covid, the only issue is that because NZ priced out so many people, their tourism sector never fully recovered to pre-covid levels

  13. It's because of those notorious tourists who do not know how to behave and respect Japan's culture. Because of that bahaved tourists like many of us have to suffer with them.

  14. Had a friend go to Japan a few weeks ago, Thanks to a bunch of "Cultural rich individuals" a lot of things have been locked down. Even some stores don't accept tourists or accept Black Tourists. Those Stores that do accept tourists, they will watch you unless you're Caucasian.

  15. A new term, "tourism pollution" has entered the Japanese language and for good reason. Too many low knowledge/low interest tourists are going and mistreating the culture. Its corrosive. The government seems intent on adding tourism to GDP but for the people they seem to be increasingly feeling that the juice is not worth the squeeze. If you go learn and follow the cultural expectations. Social media is ruining travel everywhere.
