IMF Forecast: India Set To Overtake Japan in 2025 | What’s Powering The Surge? | Business News

India is poised to overtake Japan to become the world’s fourth biggest economy in 2025. This is according to the international monetary funds world economic outlook report uh released uh for April. Uh data from the report highlights the Indian economy surpassing Japan’s uh this year. uh and if we look at the data for 2025 uh as projected in the report India’s e economic size is forecast at $4.187 trillion and this compares to $4.186 trillion for Japan uh forecast for this year India’s economy is projected to expand 6.2% 2% this year and 6.3% in 2026. India’s uh growth forecast has been cut from 6.5% by the fund uh in January. Uh Japan’s economy at the same time is seen growing 6% in 2025 which is lower than 1.1% projected uh by the fund in January. Uh the world GDP growth projection has been cut to 2.8% 8% in 2025 and this is versus uh 3.3% projected by the IMF in January. Uh the IMF said that the global growth uh is projected to decline after a period of steady but underwhelming performance and the report comes uh on the heels of uh the US government imposing tariffs on all imports into the United States.
