Indian Economic Updates : India and Japan Finalize Design for Bullet Train on High-Speed Rail Corridor

India and Japan are in the final stages of designing the bullet train for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor, with tenders expected to be issued soon. The trains will be customized for Indian conditions, featuring upgrades such as increased luggage space, the ability to withstand temperatures above 50°C, and enhanced dust resistance. Seating layouts may also be modified. More than 50% of the civil work across Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli has been completed, and rail welding has commenced in Gujarat. India is also moving towards local production of bullet trains, with the Integral Coach Factory set to manufacture trainsets capable of reaching speeds up to 280 km/h. The first units, equipped with state-of-the-art amenities, are anticipated by 2026.
