Le banche giapponesi sono finalmente libere di fare soldi

You know, the number one, my absolutely most favorite sector is the Japanese financials. And be my guest. Whether that’s the banks, whether that’s the regional banks, whether that’s the brokers, whether that is the insurance companies, this is a sector that is finally allowed to make money because the Bank of Japan is getting out of the way, that is finally allowed to make money because the yield curve is steepening, which is great for the basic capital arbitrage that those institution intermediate. Um on top of that we are having a concerted push by the regulatory authorities to make Japan an asset management powerhouse. So they are actually easing rules and regulations and to some extent even taxation to rekindle an asset management industry.

Jesper Koll, veteran Japan economist and market strategist, joins Maggie Lake on Talking Markets to highlight his top pick: Japanese financials. With the Bank of Japan stepping back and the yield curve steepening, banks, insurers, and brokers in Japan are finally able to turn a profit. Add to that a regulatory push to make Japan an asset management powerhouse, and you’ve got one of the most compelling trades in global markets today.
